The Batman – Part II could add a whole new level of coolness to Robert Pattinson’s Batman arsenal, with some thrilling possibilities for Bat-gadgets in the new setting. Matt Reeves’ latest take on a live-action version of Gotham City and The Dark Knight defending it instantly became a smash hit, thanks in no small part to the dramatic action scenes and clever sequences of detective work. The upcoming The Batman – Part II promises to expand on the story and universe of the newest Batman film series, perhaps doing so by giving Pattinson’s Batman some awesome new toys to play with.

Compared to other live-action Batmen, Robert Pattinson’s Batman gadgets are quite tame, very much grounded in reality to fit the vision of Matt Reeves’ more realistic vision for a DC mythos. While some of the technology is quite far-fetched, such as the contact lens camera lenses, the majority of it has precedence in real life as an actual tool that exists. Perhaps Reeves will be willing to push the envelope a bit further in The Batman – Part II by expanding Batman’s arsenal.

In many incarnations, Batman’s genius levels of intellect and adaptation allow him to build new gadgets after learning from the technology of his enemies. In many cases, after encounters with Mr. Freeze, Batman commonly develops the freeze bombs, small handheld grenades that unleash a frosty charge of ice rather than a powerful explosion. These devices have a wide variety of uses, from trapping foes in place to creating slippery surfaces that cause villains to lose their footing.
Admittedly, the lower-tech universe of Matt Reeves’ The Batman may seem like an awkward fit for the freeze bombs, with Mr. Freeze certainly not a Batman villain estimated to appear in the continuity any time soon. However, the gadget does have some precedence in the real world, with liquid nitrogen being a very real chemical cocktail that can instantly freeze organic material. It wouldn’t be the biggest stretch in the world to give Pattison’s Caped Crusader the first live-action interpretation of these iconic and versatile bombs.

9 The Bat-Eye
Helps Batman with surveillance and scouting
One thing that sets Robert Pattinson’s Batman apart from other live-action versions is the amount of time the film goes out of its way to show the World’s Greatest Detective doing some actual detective work. From espionage to surreptitious surveillance, this Batman certainly has a use for gadgetry that helps him get a closer look at dangerous situations. Enter the Bat-Eye, a perfect tool for long-range reconnaissance that Matt Reeves’ Batman has already demonstrated a clear preference for.

Originating from the Silver Age of DC, the Bat-Eye is typically depicted as a basketball-sized hovering orb that detaches itself from a port on the Batmobile, allowing Batman (and Robin) to get a bird’s eye view of the many dangerous situations they frequently find themselves in. This tool would prove invaluable in The Batman – Part II’s Gotham City, which is now a more dangerous place than ever. To keep things more realistic, the Bat-Eye could easily be reworked into a kind of aerial surveilance drone that exists commonly in the real world.
8 Propeller Boots
The Batman – Part II presents an interesting use case for these devices
Batman’s boots with propellers
Despite poorly-lit alleys and sketchy subway stations being Batman’s primary natural habitat, any good hero worth his salt needs to be able to traverse a wide variety of different settings and environments. This is where devices like the propeller boots come in handy for Batman, having saved him in aquatic locales at multiple points throughout the comics. True to their name, the propeller boots are a special pair of footwear that give Batman a small inbuilt rotor in each sole, allowing him to quickly traverse underwater areas with ease.

The Batman – Part II offers a great opportunity for the propeller boots to finally appear in live action due to how The Batman ended. With The Riddler having destroyed Gotham’s sea wall with his bombs, leaving entire neighborhoods of Gotham City submerged underwater, Batman’s chances of finding himself going diving seem higher than ever. Though awkward and cumbersome, propeller boots have been invented in real-life, giving The Batman – Part II some precedence for the device’s inclusion.

The propeller boots aren’t Batman’s only historically proven way of getting around in the water. Just as the Batmobile exists for street pursuits and the Batwing is there for Batman’s aerial needs, there have been many instances of an entire Batboat for use on the water. Not usually appearing in the comics, the Batboat is a product of Batman media like the original Adam West series in the 60s, Batman Returns, and Batman: The Animated Series.
In these appearances, the Batboat has all sorts of cool features that separate it from the average sea vessel. With hydrofoils, torpedoes, grappling hooks, and even submersible capabilities, there are many intriguing options for Batman to use while piloting the Batboat. Once again, a flooded Gotham is the perfect opportunity for Batman to deploy a mode of transportation that handles the clogged waterways of the post-disaster city.
6 Magnetic Gun Disablers
A handy way for Batman to rob criminals of their firearms

Famously, Batman isn’t a big fan of guns in most incarnations, despite what Ben Affleck’s violent Batman in the DCEU might have one believe. Robert Pattinson’s take on the character could learn something from Ben Affleck’s, however, when it comes to handling firearms in the first place. In the infamous warehouse fight of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck’s Batman uses a kind of magnetic sticky bomb that attaches itself to an enemy goon’s weapon, exploding violently to disable the use of their firearms.
While Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit is very much bulletproof, enough rounds of ammunition have been shown to give him pause, as proven by the climactic final fight scene in The Batman against The Riddler’s cult. Perhaps Batman could learn from this experience with some kind of similar device that preemptively takes care of his biggest threat, allowing him to excel in close combat uncontested. The devices could be explained easily enough as powerful magnets with a charge strong enough to warp metal firearms past the point of repair.

5 Sleeping Gas
Batman sometimes dabbles in chemical weaponry
The smoke bomb is an iconic part of Batman’s arsenal as a stealthy warrior of the night, so its no surprise that the comics expand upon the different types of gases The Dark Knight is willing to employ. One such variation on a classic tool is filled with sleeping gas instead of simple smoke, allowing Batman to simultaneously give himself cover and take out thugs with little resistance. A custom chemical cocktail, Batman’s sleeping gas presents a powerful anesthetic capable of gently and harmlessly lulling a grown man out cold in a matter of moments.

Batman has demonstrated a variety of delivery systems for this gas, from simple grenades to pressurized nozzles that spray from the tips of his gauntlets. In any case, the sleeping gas admittedly might not make for the most exciting action sequence, being a very low-risk option for Batman to reach for. But considering how many criminals Robert Pattinson’s Batman puts to sleep with his fists alone, it’s worth cutting him a break with a gadget that cuts to the chase.
4 The EMP Rifle
Could help Batman take more advantages away from his enemies
The Batman wasn’t the first Batman movie series to take things to a more grounded, realistic tone, with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy not being all that much more fantastical. One of the coolest gadgets Christian Bale’s Batman uses in that series is the EMP rifle of The Dark Knight Rises fame. This device looks like a futuristic firearm, but is actually a directed blast of electromagnetic energy, causing all functioning electronics in the scope of its range to be instantly bricked with one pull of the trigger.

It’s easy to imagine some valuable uses of this item in Robert Pattinson’s Batman toolkit. Like anyone else in real life, his criminal enemies are quite reliant on technology, particularly when it comes to seeing Batman coming before he can get close enough to strike. A gadget like this could help Batman close the gap and darken the room before bringing the pain in The Batman – Part II.
3 Bat-Net Drones
A high-tech restraining device that captures crooks easily
Batman’s famous “no-kill” rule frequently forces him to get creative when it comes to finding a non-lethal way to subdue his opponents. Much of his weaponry is designed to harm, incapacitate, or restrain rather than kill outright, with a prime example being the Bat-Net drones. These sophisticated devices are a fire-and-forget net delivery system that allows Batman to easily serve up dangerous criminals on a silver platter.

Taking the shape of small, robotic bats, these drones can be programmed to follow a certain target or hover in place and attack the first person they see. Upon detonation, the devices unfurl into massive entangling nets that can effortlessly subdue all but the wiliest of Batman villains. Though they might seem too far-fetched for Matt Reeves’ universe, the Bat-Net drones could easily be reworked into realistic hovering flying drones with a remote trigger, firing an onboard net-launcher.

The Batman presented an interesting take on Batman’s most iconic gadget, with a single massive, chunky Batarang that is lifted straight out of the chest of Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit. The next movie could present one of the many variations of the Batarangs seen throughout the comics with the heated Batarang, a red-hot version of the classic throwing weapon that burns just as easily as it cuts. This wouldn’t be very hard to justify in-universe, with Batman simply needing to fire up the metal of the typical Batarang with some kind of external heating device.
Interestingly enough, Clayface is a rumored villain for The Batman – Part II, which could make the heated Batarang a particularly prescient choice for an appearance in the next movie. In the comics, the heated Batarang is particularly useful against Clayface’s amorphous body, the intensely high temperatures causing the clay making up his body to bake and crumble away like it was in a giant kiln. The idea of a glowing hot Batarang in Robert Pattinson’s hands is a striking image.

1 The Line Launcher
One of Batman’s most stylish ways to traverse Gotham City
Not all of Batman’s coolest ideas for gadgets come from comics, movies, or TV shows, with video games providing some of the most creative ways for the Caped Crusader to get around. In Rocksteady’s beloved Batman Arkham series, one recurring upgrade allowing Batman to quickly traverse vast distances is the line launcher. This small, compact device fires a grappling hook in a straight line in two directions, allowing Batman to utilize a makeshift zip-line that quickly transports him across chasms, rooftops, or buildings.

It would be amazing to finally see this genius device rendered in a live-action Batman movie. The delivery system is no more far-fetched than the grappling guns Batman uses in The Batman, simply iterating on the same theme to create a thrilling zip-line. Considering Robert Pattinson’s penchant for extreme sports gear like the wing suit, a zip-line launcher seems like a perfect addition to his tool belt for The Batman – Part II.
