4 Best Movies To Watch Before The Woman In The Yard

Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming horror movie The Woman in the Yard will be released in theaters on March 28, and in the days leading up to its premiere, there are several great movies that audiences should check out. The movie is just one in the production company Blumhouse’s 2025 release schedule. It centers on a woman named Ramona and her two children, who begin to be haunted by a mysterious woman in their yard. The Woman in the Yard also serves as a reunion for its star, Danielle Deadwyler, and its director, Collet-Serra, who worked together on a 2024 film.

The Woman in the Yard‘s most recent trailer shows the mysterious woman clad in black appearing in Ramona’s yard, claiming that she has been called. While her presence seems slightly ominous at first, it soon turns downright terrifying as she creeps closer to and eventually inside the house, threatening Ramona and her children’s lives. Along with the straightforward horror aspects of the story, The Woman in the Yard also hints at a deeper narrative about Ramona’s grief after losing her husband and the struggle of raising their children alone.

On one side, Berniece desires to keep the piano in her home as a reminder of everything that her family has gone through. On the other side, her brother Boy Willie wants to sell the piano, which he sees as a way to improve their lives in the future.

The Woman in the Yard may be the newest Blumhouse movie, but the production company has so many great horror options, it is hard to go wrong with any of them. Insidious‘s haunting family story and creeping nature make it a great fit to watch before The Woman in the Yard comes out. While the movie received somewhat mixed reviews and sits at a 66% acceptance rate on Rotten Tomatoes, Insidious has remained fairly popular since its release and even has several sequels and prequels, proving that audiences continue to enjoy it.

Beyond Insidious, Jason Blum has put his name to many of the most successful horror films of the past decades, which make The Woman in the Yard seem even more promising.

The movie centers on a family that experiences a tragedy when one of their sons falls into a coma without a clear explanation. As with Ramona’s grief over her husband, the Lambert’s struggle to make sense of their son’s condition, but things become even worse when it becomes clear that what they are really dealing with is a demonic entity, forcing them to fight for their son’s life. Beyond Insidious, Jason Blum has put his name to many of the most successful horror films of the past decades, which make The Woman in the Yard seem even more promising.

Before The Woman in the Yard, audiences should check out Jaume Collet-Serra and Danielle Deadwyler’s collaboration from just four months ago. Carry-On is an action thriller starring Taron Egerton as a TSA agent who becomes ensnared in a sinister plot to smuggle a nerve agent onto a commercial flight. The tense movie sees Egerton’s character Ethan Kopek attempting to outsmart the villain’s plan to kill those onboard without putting his co-workers or pregnant partner in more danger.

Upon its release, Carry-On surged to the top of Netflix’s charts and has since become one of Netflix’s most streamed movies ever. In it, Danielle Deadwyler appears as an LAPD detective racing to figure out the truth behind a nearby homicide, and despite not being the main character, her performance is undeniably fun. Between Deadwyler’s performance and Collet-Serra’s direction, Carry-On gives audiences a good sense of what to look forward to in The Woman in the Yard, despite being an entirely different kind of movie.

Though Orphan received mixed reviews upon its release, it has remained a horror mainstay and an important part of director Jaume Collet-Serra’s career. The 2009 horror continues to draw in fans to this day, and it even has a prequel that was released in 2022. While Collet-Serra has other horror films in his filmography, Orphan is the perfect example of his work leading up to The Woman in the Yard, as it incorporates some of the same themes of grief and family into an electrifying horror scenario.
