5 Best Movies To Watch Before A Working Man, Jason Statham’s New Action Movie

A Working Man is the upcoming action movie from David Ayer and Jason Statham, adapted from the novel “Levon’s Trade” by Chuck Dixon. The film follows a retired black ops soldier now working as a builder, who finds himself dragged back into the dark underworld of crime when his boss’ daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers. A Working Man is a very promising opportunity for David Ayer, who has seemingly found a perfect partnership with Statham in recent years.

Although A Working Man probably won’t be the most original or groundbreaking action movie in recent memory, the level of talent both in front and behind the camera is extremely promising. David Ayer has been responsible for some of the most dynamic and engaging action films in recent memory, while Statham’s later career has become a playground of electric performances in equally exciting projects. While the rest of A Working Man’s cast is just as exciting, this is clearly Statham’s project, and it gives us the perfect excuse to revisit some similar action films.

The Beekeeper is the most recent collaboration between Jason Statham and David Ayer, and it’s the entire reason I’m excited to see what they’ve cooked up with A Working Man. Their respective styles of acting and filmmaking fit so neatly together, and The Beekeeper works solely because they’re operating on the same gritty, melodramatic scale.

The story follows a retired hitman-turned-beekeeper who’s dragged back into the criminal underworld when a cyberattack on an unsuspecting woman opens his eyes to a much larger conspiracy threatening the American government. Despite being a recent addition to Jason Statham’s filmography, The Beekeeper is already a quintessential Statham movie.

Another exciting aspect of A Working Man is its screenplay, which was written by Hollywood star and frequent Jason Statham collaborator Sylvester Stallone. But this isn’t his first shot at writing an action movie; Stallone was involved with the script of Gary Fleder’s Homefront, a violent thriller about a retired DEA Agent who’s hunted down by a drug lord whose crimes he exposed. Statham and Stallone are reunited for A Working Man, hopefully bringing much of the same dynamism and electricity that made this movie such an exciting watch.

Without Remorse is the first movie in Michael B. Jordan’s Tom Clancy series, which is hopefully continuing with the upcoming Rainbow Six movie sometime soon. The film centers around a navy SEAL who finds himself embroiled in a deadly conspiracy that threatens to trigger another World War, leaving him alone to prevent the global conflict. It’s a very exciting and high-octane film that uses its immense stakes and visceral set pieces to immerse viewers in the action, which is something it shares with Statham’s most recent projects.

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have collaborated on multiple different occasions, with many audiences crediting the director for forging the specific style of action-heavy thrillers that Statham continues to make today. The Covenant is certainly one of Ritchie’s most interesting recent projects, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as an American soldier in Afghanistan who places his life in the hands of a local interpreter deep inside enemy territory. Despite dealing with broader themes and issues, it still feels like a classic Guy Ritchie action movie.

Another collaboration between Statham and Ritchie, Wrath of Man is one of Statham’s most creative and innovative projects in years. The film follows a mysterious driver who uses his military background to offer illegal assistance to the highest bidder until he’s led down a path of revenge following a job that went wrong. Wrath of Man is inspired by countless other action movies from the ‘90s and early 2000s, using rich character drama and precise camera work to immerse the audience in this dark story without relying too heavily on spectacle and visual effects.

The Order is a much slower-paced film than most of Jason Statham and Ayer’s previous work, but it’s one that fans of the action genre who are waiting for A Working Man will certainly find something powerful in. The story follows a small-town detective who’s assigned to investigate a string of robberies seemingly connected to a local white supremacist group. As he delves deeper into the case, he discovers their plans to overthrow the federal government. It’s an extremely dark movie that explores frighteningly topical issues from today’s society.
