Henry Cavill has several exciting projects coming out that range from franchise reboots to book-to-movie adaptations. Though Cavill is most known as one of the actors behind Superman or as the white-haired Witcher, his career extends beyond these two major roles. Cavill’s first big movie role was in 2002’s The Count of Monte Cristo. Just a few years later, he landed a recurring role in The Tudors. From there, Cavill began earning parts that put him at the very front of wildly popular franchises and IPs, starting with Man of Steel.

It is notable to add that Cavill is coming off of a rather strange time in his career. In 2022, it was announced that Cavill was leaving The Witcher after season 3. His reasons for exiting the show aren’t entirely clear, but his departure was quite surprising. Soon after, Cavill’s role as Clark Kent officially came to an end, as James Gunn moved forward with Superman: Legacy starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel in a brand-new DC universe. The next movie Henry Cavill is set to star in is 2025’s In the Grey. This will be Cavill’s first appearance after his Marvel debut as Cavillrine in July 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. In the Grey is an upcoming Guy Ritchie film starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González. Not much has been revealed about the plot this far, but In the Grey will follow two agents and their accomplices as they try to track down millions of dollars of stolen money. The movie is set to premiere on January 17, 2025.

What makes In the Grey stand out from other upcoming Cavill movies is that it is the actor’s second time collaborating with Guy Ritchie in just a year. Both Cavill and González recently appeared in Guy Ritchie’s movieThe Ministry for Ungentlemanly Warfare, which came out in April 2024. Despite a great cast and relatively strong reviews, this period action film did rather poorly at the box office. In this way, In the Grey will hopefully redeem Cavill and Ritchie’s collaborations. Cavill has worked with Ritchie in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Overall, In the Grey is exciting because it can show Henry Cavill at his best. Though Cavill’s roles have ranged from sleek and stylish gentlemen to rough-around-the-edges heroes, all of his iconic roles have been action-orientated. It seems likely that In the Grey will put Cavill’s action chops to the test, especially alongside the intense Jake Gyllenhaal. In the Grey will hopefully be a strong start to the next phase of Henry Cavill’s career.

Highlander is a reboot of the 1986 movie that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The reboot is directed by Chad Stahelski and stars Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod.

Highlander is arguably the ideal replacement for The Witcher. Cavill’s exit from The Witcher was a major disappointment, especially as he was one of the best things about the show. Therefore, seeing Cavill in another immortal warrior role is especially thrilling. Cavill can return to his long-haired sword-wielding ways and introduce a beloved character to a new generation of audiences. It also helps that Cavill is famous for his attention to detail when adapting preexisting characters. Undoubtedly, Cavill will honor Highlander‘s legacy.

Highlander has no release date yet, but it is going to begin filming in January 2025. Therefore, audiences could have this new Cavill franchise in 2026, or even late 2025. Another aspect of Highlander that viewers should be anticipating is that the movie is directed by Chad Stahelski. Stahelski is best known for his work on the John Wick franchise. In this way, Highlander has a strong foundation beneath it, and the opportunity to be a great reboot.

Highlander isn’t the only potential franchise that Henry Cavill is preparing to lead. In 2022, it was revealed that Cavill is attached to an adaptation of Warhammer 40,000. Warhammer is a beloved tabletop role-playing game that sees players engaging in intense battles in a gruesome wasteland. The game is best known for its use of meticulously crafted figurines, and also, its extensive lore and world. Significantly, Cavill has always been vocal about his love of Warhammer, making him the ideal candidate to lead the adaptation.

is likely Cavill’s most precarious project at the moment.

Although Warhammer 40k has been in development since 2022, the project has seemingly hit some roadblocks. Apparently, Amazon Studios and Game Workshop are collaborating on the project, but have reached a wall. If Warhammer 40k happens, audiences should expect a series that is bursting with details from the original game. Without a doubt, Cavill will try his hardest to make sure the project is as accurate to the source material as possible.

One movie that audiences might be expecting from Henry Cavill is the upcoming Enola Holmes 3. The Enola Holmes franchise is based on books of the same name and tells the story of Enola, a young woman living in 19th-century England who is the little sister of famed detective Sherlock Holmes. For two movies, Enola has embarked on dangerous and mysterious investigations around London. Now, a third movie is entering production and is said to be set for release in 2025. Henry Cavill’s return as Sherlock Holmes has not been confirmed, but it seems likely that he will appear.

Enola Holmes may be one of Henry Cavill’s most underrated franchises. While Cavill certainly deserves acclaim for his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia or Superman, his performance as Sherlock Holmes is just as good, despite being a smaller role. Cavill brings a certain level of charm that isn’t always present in Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Furthermore, Cavill’s Sherlock has an element of warmth to him, which makes his relationship with Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola so endearing. Plus, when Cavill appears alongside Sam Claflin’s Mycroft, the duo makes for a hilarious pair.

Though Cavill’s reprisal as Sherlock isn’t officially confirmed, audiences should still keep Enola Holmes 3 on their radar. Considering how well Enola Holmes and its sequel have done, it seems inevitable that the third movie will be just as good. This is especially true since the franchise revealed their Moriarty at the end of Enola Holmes 2. Where other Henry Cavill projects on this list are risky because they may be bad or may never happen at all, Enola Holmes 3 is a safe bet. It is a strong franchise that deserves way more love than it gets.

Another movie on Henry Cavill’s plate at the moment is The Rosie Project. Based on a 2013 book, The Rosie Project follows geneticist Don Tillman. Due to his difficulties with social skills, Tillman long assumed that he would spend his life alone. However, when a friend claims that he would make the perfect husband, Tillman sets out to find a wife. In the process, he meets Rosie, a fiery woman who is searching for her biological father. When the two team up, Tillman must face the fact that his love story may not be as scientific as he hoped.

was going to star Jennifer Lawrence as the eponymous Rosie.

The Rosie Project is Cavill’s most unexpected project of all. Cavill has certainly played love interests before, but the actor has never been the leading man of a romantic comedy. This will be an entirely new endeavor for him compared to his most recent roles. It leaves many to wonder how Cavill will do in a romantic atmosphere that is not offset by a fantasy world or an action-heavy plot. Furthermore, Don Tillman allows Cavill to play an entirely new kind of character. Rather than being his usual suave and self-assured hero, he will have to embody a more unsure and awkward role.

Unfortunately, there is very little news about The Rosie Project. Although Cavill was announced as Don Tillman in 2021, alongside Steve Falk as director, there have been few updates since then. Presumably, Cavill has been busy working on his newest movies, such as In the Grey. However, hopes are still high that this movie will happen. Seeing Henry Cavill in a romantic role would be just the thing to make this new era of his career more special.
