6 Anakin’s first blue lightsaber
Appeared in: Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
Near
A massive time jump occurred between Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clonesrevealing that Anakin had gone from a frightened young man from Tatooine unfamiliar with the Jedi way to a headstrong teenage Padawan learner. With this leap came a number of changes in Anakin’s life. Star Wars History. Among them was the reveal of Anakin’s first official lightsaber on screen: a blue saber that he used in a few key scenes in Attack of the Clones.
Sadly, one of the most memorable scenes in which Anakin wielded this blue lightsaber was the horrific massacre of the Tusken Raiders that Anakin carried out after finding his tortured mother in the Tusken Raider camp. However, this was not the same blue lightsaber that was seen throughout the game. Star Wars. Rather, this lightsaber eventually broke. Attack of the ClonesWhen Anakin and Padmé went to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi on Geonosis, they became trapped in a room filled with heavy machinery. It was during this intense situation that Anakin’s lightsaber was severed.
Humorously, immediately after this incident, Anakin announced that Obi-Wan was going to kill him when he found out that Anakin had broken his lightsaber. Given the way Anakin phrased it, this could even suggest that Anakin had other lightsabers before this one that are unknown in the franchise that he also broke or lost. After all, the certainty of Anakin’s statement implied that he and Obi-Wan had discussed this before. In light of the decade that passed between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the ClonesIt’s certainly possible that this wasn’t Anakin’s first lightsaber accident.

5 Nicanas Tassu’s Green Lightsaber
Appeared in: Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
Anakin had already broken his first blue lightsaber in Attack of the Clones When the Battle of Geonosis broke out, he couldn’t do without a weapon during this great battle. Because of that, another Jedi, Nicanas Tassu, let Anakin use his green lightsaber, which is the one Anakin can be seen wielding during the Battle of Geonosis. In fact, this is the same lightsaber that Anakin used to fight Count Dooku in the movie.
It’s unclear what exactly happened to this lightsaber after Anakin used it, though he presumably simply returned it to its rightful owner. After all, Jedi were said to have a particular bond with their kyber crystals, and thus their sabers. While this borrowed green lightsaber may have worked for one battle, it wouldn’t have served Anakin well in the long run. Anakin instead needed to create a new lightsaber for himself, and it seems he wanted one that looked fairly similar to his first blue saber.
4 Anakin’s second blue lightsaber
Appeared in: Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
By Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the SithAnakin already had his second blue lightsaber. Sadly, this would be Anakin’s last Jedi lightsaber. However, the legacy of this lightsaber certainly didn’t end when Anakin became Darth Vader. Instead, this blue lightsaber is the same one that’s been seen throughout the universe. Star WarsIt was first seen in A new hope when Luke Skywalker used it and it reappeared in the sequel trilogy and was used by both Finn and Rey.
In fact, ironically, this lightsaber was also broken, but not by Anakin: Rey and Kylo Ren split it in two. Star Wars: The Last JediTechnically, Anakin lost this lightsaber as well, though it could hardly be considered his fault in the same way that the accident with his first blue lightsaber might have been. During their epic battle on Mustafar, Anakin was obviously outmatched by Obi-Wan, famously having been dismembered and left for dead after being completely burned by the lava on the molten planet.
As Anakin lay dying, Obi-Wan took the lightsaber and carried it away, which explains how the blue lightsaber ended up on Tatooine in the original trilogy. Sadly, this legendary lightsaber’s time in Star Wars It may really be over. Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerRey buried this lightsaber and Leia’s lightsaber at the Lars homestead on Tatooine.
This means that the history of this lightsaber ended at the same time as the Skywalker saga.
It was certainly a controversial measure. Star WarsBut it does suggest that this lightsaber will not be seen again. While sad, this is good in a way. For one, this means that the story of this lightsaber ended at the same time as the Skywalker saga. For another, while Anakin’s body may not have been buried on Tatooine, his lightsaber was, near where he had buried his mother. This is perhaps the closest Anakin could have come to being buried next to his beloved mother.
3. Count Dooku’s lightsaber
Appeared in: Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
Near
Although it’s easy to overlook, Anakin’s second blue lightsaber wasn’t the only one he wielded in Revenge of the Sith. Rather, earlier in the film, Anakin used his own blue lightsaber, but also Count Dooku’s red Sith one to decapitate the Count. Anakin killing Dooku in this manner was brutal enough, but it becomes even more brutal in light of the fact that Anakin killed Dooku with his own lightsaber.

This was also foreshadowing, of course. Not only was Anakin willing to kill an unarmed opponent (a clear sign of the growing darkness within him), but he also used a red lightsaber without hesitation. Interestingly, though, Anakin’s own Sith lightsaber was never shown in the prequel trilogy. Obtaining a red lightsaber doesn’t happen automatically – a kyber crystal must be “bled” in order for the blade to turn red. This ultimately happened off-screen, but it does happen in canon. Star Wars comics.
2:31 Related Why Anakin’s Lightsaber Didn’t Turn From Blue To Red When He Became A Sith
Although Osha turned a blue lightsaber red in a matter of seconds, there’s a key reason why Anakin Skywalker’s red lightsaber didn’t happen right away.
It is fascinating, however, that Count Dooku’s red lightsaber was technically Anakin’s first Sith saber. Of course, over time, that stopped being the case. Just as Anakin acquired the iconic Sith eyes, Anakin eventually wielded a red lightsaber of his own. However, as mentioned, even as a terrifying Sith Lord, Anakin never resolved his habit of losing or breaking his lightsabers.
Even as a terrifying Sith Lord, Anakin never resolved his habit of losing or breaking his lightsabers.
2 Darth Vader’s first red lightsaber
Appeared in: Darth Vader #4 (2017)
Near
Even once Anakin joined the dark side of the Force, his behavior didn’t change much, at least when it came to lightsabers. In the canonical comic Darth Vader #4 (2017)Vader eventually acquired a lightsaber with a kyber crystal that could bleed, from a Jedi named Kirak Infil’a. As is Sith tradition, Vader won this lightsaber in battle with Infil’a, killing him and taking his saber. This was the lightsaber that Vader used at the beginning of the Dark Times, even keeping the hilt the same. However, like his Jedi lightsabers, it was not built to last.
In the comics, this lightsaber was broken in a confrontation between Darth Vader and a group of bounty hunters. Interestingly, though, Vader was able to retain the kyber crystal from this destroyed lightsaber, meaning that this same crystal was the one used in the red lightsaber that Vader became known for. Vader only changed the hilt and eventually designed one of his own. Though the exact timeline is a bit hard to pinpoint, presumably, it was Vader’s second and final red lightsaber that was seen throughout the original trilogy and likely in Obi-Wan Kenobi also.
1. Darth Vader’s second red lightsaber
Appeared in: A New Hope
While Anakin’s second blue lightsaber might be the most legendary weapon Anakin used as a Jedi, Darth Vader’s second red lightsaber is equally iconic. This is the weapon Vader used throughout the original trilogy, from fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi to dying in A new hope to fight with Luke in Return of the Jedi before returning to the light side of the Force. Ultimately, this was Anakin’s last lightsaber, as he died very shortly after his fight with Luke in Return of the Jedi.
Interestingly, Anakin/Vader has been seen wielding a lightsaber even after his death, in the World Between Worlds in the Ahsoka However, this isn’t exactly Anakin Skywalker, he’s not even a Force ghost, and he appears to be wielding the second blue lightsaber and the second red lightsaber, respectively, in those scenes, meaning they’re not truly unique weapons. Either way, though, it’s clear that Anakin Skywalker had several lightsabers that he used throughout Star Wars which went far beyond his blue Jedi lightsaber and his red Sith lightsaber.
