movie as the gods wish

In 2014, a creepy Japanese supernatural horror film “神さまの言うとおり” was put on the screen under the direction of Miike Takashi. This gripping film was inspired by the original arc of the manga series of the same name, written by Munyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Akiji Fujimura.

The film tells a suspenseful storyline intertwined with supernatural elements, telling the story of horrific events that occur when the gods themselves appear to be behind the scenes. Audiences are taken on a roller coaster ride of fear and suspense as the characters find themselves caught in a deadly game orchestrated by divine forces.

Queen of the Gods later became available for viewing in American homes thanks to the efforts of renowned entertainment company Funimation, which brings popular Japanese anime and films to global audiences.

Masterfully directed by Takashi Miike and adapted from the gripping manga, this supernatural horror film offers a tense and captivating experience for horror enthusiasts and fans of the manga series.

Gods ending explained

In the final game, represented by Russian matryoshka dolls, players play a game of kick-the-can that must be completed before sunset. Each of the remaining five players chooses a stick, and the person who draws the red stick plays the role of the “devil”.

“Devils” have the ability to capture and imprison anyone they see and shout out in the game. Additionally, kicking a can into the center will cause an explosion, causing all players in its vicinity to be wiped out.

During this game, Takeru happened to draw the red stick, resulting in the quick arrest of the three students. Meanwhile, Shun looks for armor to cover his face to avoid being caught. However, Shun was eventually tied to Wu’s armor and accidentally fell into the sea. After managing to get up and get rid of the armor, Shun tried to pull it up to prevent Wu from falling.

In the end, Shun successfully kicked the can and became the winner of the game. However, the importance of the matryoshka doll only became apparent later. The explosion is just an illusion and the player will not be harmed even if they lose the game.

After the game, everyone decides to have a popsicle party to decide their fate. Fortunately, Shun and Takeru survived the incident, but Ichika, Eiji, and Kotaro were vaporized by one of the Russian matryoshka dolls. Interestingly, there was a hikikomori who had been secretly observing the group of people in his room. He eventually left home, possibly in search of the true identity of “God,” a term mentioned in the incident.

In the end, Wu appeared happy, while Shun was saddened by his loss. Both men claimed that there was no God, but this was false. One of the matryoshka dolls represents a wanderer who has been observing the game and is, in fact, the “god” behind it.

Overall, the story culminates with an unexpected twist, revealing the intricate and mysterious connections between the participants and an unseen observer, leaving the characters pondering the existence of a higher power.

Will of the Gods movie plot

In this thrilling story, high school student Shun Takahata finds himself living a monotonous life, spending most of his time playing violent video games. One day, however, his routine is disrupted when something strange happens in class.

The teacher’s head turns into a Daruma doll, and Shun, his friend Satake, and the entire class are thrust into a deadly game called “Dharma Sanga Colonda.” They have to play the game and moving will cause the students to be killed one by one. The goal is to end the game and survive by pressing the button on the doll’s back before the timer runs out.

With Satake’s help, Shun successfully pressed the button, but unfortunately, Satake lost his life, indicating that only those who press the button can survive.

After completing this deadly game, Shun joins forces with his friend Ichika Akimoto, and together they launch another dangerous challenge called “Ring the Bell for the Cat.” The game involves a giant Lucky Neko (Lucky Cat) and students dressed as mice trying to throw bells into a circle hanging from the Lucky Cat’s collar. However, their lives are threatened as they must avoid being eaten or crushed.

They win the competition with the help of their grumpy, troubled classmate Takeshi Amaya, who then betrays them and kills all the other survivors.

As they progress, the surviving three awaken in a flying cube above Tokyo, where they face a series of tests along with other students from across Japan and the world. The next challenge, “Kagome Kagome,” requires students to be blindfolded and have a limited time to guess which of four floating Kokeshi puppets is behind them.

The failure had fatal consequences, but Shun managed to save his former classmate Shoko Takase and reunited with Ichika and another student named Yukio Sanada.

The group advances to the next level where they must use the key to unlock a giant smiling Kokeshi avatar. In the chaos, Amaya introduces more keys and kills a prisoner, leading the survivors onward.

In a subsequent game with Ice Bear, the white polar bear, students must answer truthfully or they will be forced to identify the person they believe is lying, leading to that person’s death. Xiangzi and Xuefu lost their lives, but Shun discovered Xiong’s true deception and survived with the other four.

Finally, the last game is a version of Kick the Can, represented by a Russian matryoshka doll. Students must complete the game before sunset, with one of them becoming the “devil” and catching those who are seen and shouted at.

Kicking the can in the middle will cause an explosion, killing nearby players. Wu became a “demon” and several students were captured, while Shun covered his face and fell into the sea. After a fierce struggle, Shun finally broke free and kicked the can first, winning the game. Surprisingly, the Russian Doll reveals that the explosion was a lie and that even losing the game wouldn’t hurt anyone.

At the Popsicle Party, the survivors learn their fate on sticks and understand that the end game is just for fun. Shun and Takeshi survive, but Ichika, Eiji, and Kotaro are killed by one of the Russian Doll’s quarter lasers. When they reach the top of the cube, they are cheered by the crowd, while enigmatic hikikomori observer Takumi Enokida ventures out of his home, perhaps to find the true identity of “God.”

The air was filled with celebration and despair, Wu was ecstatic and Shun was saddened by the loss of his friend. He concludes that “there is no God,” but Matryoshka corrects him, suggesting that these deadly games may lead them to the true “God” as they reveal the wandering observers orchestrating the games behind the scenes.
