Development of the game commenced in 2012 with the provisional name Project Beast.Drawing inspiration from FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series, Bloodborne also takes cues from the literary works of authors H. P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker. Additionally, the architectural designs of real-world locations, such as those found in Romania and Czechia, influenced the game’s atmospheric and eerie setting.
Upon its release, Bloodborne received critical acclaim, earning praise for its challenging gameplay, immersive atmosphere, impeccable sound design, Lovecraftian themes, and interconnected world design. Some criticism was directed at its technical performance, but post-release updates helped address those issues. Bloodborne Gameplay
Bloodborne is an action role-playing game set in the Gothic world of Yharnam. Players control a character known as the Hunter and explore various locations, battling enemies and bosses, collecting items, interacting with non-player characters, and advancing through the main story.

At the beginning of the game, players create their Hunter by customizing various aspects such as gender, appearance, and starting attributes. They also choose a starting class or “Origin” that provides a basic backstory for the character. Additionally, players can align with different religious societies called “Covenants,” each with its own perspectives on the world.
Throughout the game, players can return to the safe zone known as the “Hunter’s Dream” by interacting with lanterns scattered throughout Yharnam. This replenishes health and acts as a checkpoint, respawning enemies except for bosses. The Hunter’s Dream offers essential features such as purchasing items, leveling up the character, and upgrading weapons.
Yharnam is an extensive map with interconnected areas. Players may need to use gravestones in the Hunter’s Dream to teleport to certain locations not directly connected to the main areas. The game provides multiple options for progressing, but there is usually a main path to follow through the story. Along the way, players may encounter diverging paths leading to optional locations, ultimately looping back to the central starting area, providing shortcuts for easier navigation and backtracking.
