The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is expected to arrive in movie theaters in November 2026, bringing characters such as Lenore Dove Baird, Maysilee Donner, and a young Haymitch Abernathy to the screen. Summarily and simply, Thatcher is well-equipped as an actress and has proven that she can portray a range of intense emotions when her characters have found themselves struggling to survive in the wild or fleeing terrifying monsters. Thatcher may be a bit older than people would expect for 16-year-old Lenore Dove, but can convincingly portray a teenager and has more than enough to offer Sunrise on the Reaping.

By now, Ariana Greenblatt is primarily known for playing Sasha in the worldwide phenomenon of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. While Sasha is depicted in Barbie as initially having a harshly realistic worldview and learning about more of the nuances of womanhood while reconnecting with her mother, there is an undeniable wit to her performance. Everyone in Barbie is hilarious, but Greenblatt still has some standout moments, motivating Barbie and Gloria to take action.

Olivia Rodrigo certainly has the musical part of Lenore Dove’s role down, something that may seem incidental — but while Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t a trained singer who did her best with “The Hanging Tree,” Rachel Zegler proved that being a musical actor really helps bring the culture of the Covey and District 12 to life. Rodrigo is still a skilled actress, although Sunrise on the Reaping may be a new challenge for her, one that would diversify her portfolio.

Rodrigo used her role in the High School Musical spinoff series as a nervous young performer coming into her own as a springboard for her musical career, and while this has massively paid off, she has done little traditional acting since. Ironically, she did provide the single “Can’t Catch Me Now” for the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Sonbgbirds & Snakes. Rodrigo may be more of a gamble for the casting directors, but one that could again pay off while bringing her career full circle.

Asha Banks

Known For West End Career & A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder (2024)

Asha Banks also has the musical talent needed to really perfect Lenore Dove’s character, although people who just became familiar with her this last year might not know it. Having spent her youth as a West End child actress, starring in productions including Les Misérables, Annie, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Banks is capable of delivering a few beautiful musical scenes. She is also gradually building up her on-screen resume, recently starring in the book-to-TV adaptation of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.

While playing a supporting member of the main group in the spunky murder mystery series, Banks is delightful in the role of Cara, and plenty would love to see more of her. She can deliver a relatable and compelling performance, decent chemistry with a co-star, and a wonderful musical number, everything that is needed for Lenore Dove’s arc.

Those who know Freya Allan primarily for The Witcher might be surprised by how much else she has done in just the last few years. There was, of course, her co-leading role in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a character who played into some of the actress’ strengths as demonstrated by her performance as Ciri. However, there was also BBC’s War of the Worlds miniseries the year she broke out with The Witcher; HBO’s thriller The Third Day; and the star-studded action flick Gunpowder Milkshake; not to mention a few upcoming projects.

Allan is one of a handful of up-and-coming stars who already has such a rich background that it seems impossible that anyone could truly regret casting her. It would also be nice to see Allan return to the dystopian genre to engage in some different dynamics there after Planet of the Apes, while Lenore Dove would be a fresh yet still grounded character for her.

Dior Goodjohn played her admittedly small role as camp bully Clarisse to perfection in the first season of Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians — now we are all just waiting for the show to come back around and for her to wow us with Clarisse’s more complicated arc from the second book because the casting directors certainly had her read for such scenes to begin with. It generally seems like all the new Percy Jackson stars are headed toward big careers, and Goodjohn is no exception.

Her few mainstream credits include “Little Santana” back in 2013 in Glee, but she does what she has been cast to do well, her upcoming beats dealing with bravery in the face of insecurities suggesting that she is capable of playing the emotional complexities of Lenore Dove’s story. She also only briefly interacts with the other main actors in Percy Jackson season 1, and it would be great to see her develop chemistry with whoever is playing Haymitch.

Ever Anderson is a strong all-around choice for The Hunger Games, standing out also as one of the actors who could play Maysilee Donner, or any of a few other characters in Sunrise on the Reaping. She made an impression with little screen time in Black Widow, playing a young Natasha Romanoff who goes from exhibiting a quiet awareness to viciously defending her sister in her sequence. After this, she took on the timeless role of Wendy Darling, portraying an updated iteration that is still characterized by a childlike innocence but also new, tougher side.

With only Black Widow, Peter Pan & Wendy, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter as her credits, everyone should be eager to see what Anderson will do next, and she is seemingly ideal for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. She is at least about the right age and claims a perfect resume to prepare her for this subgenre. Yet while Anderson may not be cast, the franchise will doubtlessly again bring new and old talent on board to tell another story about tyranny and rebellion in the world of Panem.
