Chivalry 2 gameplay
Chivalry 2’s gameplay is all about intense medieval combat, and players can experience it from either a first-person or third-person perspective. This choice gives the game a unique dynamic, allowing players to immerse themselves in the action up close or with a wider view. Whether on foot or on horseback, the game introduces new dimensions to combat scenarios, making every battle exciting and varied.
Players in Chivalry 2 wield an array of medieval weapons, including warhammers, maces, swords, and battle axes. The addition of bows and arrows adds a strategic element to the game. Discovering new weapons in treasure chests around the map keeps things fresh and encourages players to adjust their strategies. Combat requires mastering three basic melee attack patterns: horizontal slashes, vertical slashes, and thrusts, which can be combined for effective and dynamic encounters.
The game’s team mode features the Knights of Agatha versus the Knights of Mason, and later the Tenosian Empire. Whether it’s Team Deathmatch, Team Objective or Free-for-All Deathmatch, players can participate in battles with support for up to 64 players. Team Objective mode presents a unique challenge, requiring one group to breach the enemy’s castle and complete various objectives while the other group defends. Since each stage of the battle has its own objectives, timing becomes critical and success depends on teamwork and strategy. Chivalry 2’s accessible and engaging gameplay combined with its medieval setting provides players with an exciting and immersive experience in a world of epic battles.

Chivalry 2 Development
Development on Chivalry 2 began in 2017 under the direction of Torn Banner Studios. Their goal is not to create a strict swordplay simulation, but to provide players with a more chaotic and dynamic experience, akin to a “bar fight” rather than a precise fencing match. Inspired by Monty Python’s style of humor, the game allows players to use anything they find on the battlefield as a weapon, adding an element of unpredictability to combat.
During development, the Torn Banner Studios team aimed to expand the game’s scale. They’ve significantly increased the player count, allowing up to 64 players to take part in battles. The team took inspiration from popular fantasy series like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, shaping the gameplay and structure of Team Objective Mode to deliver what they describe as a “smooth cinematic experience.” A focus on creating large-scale immersive environments became a central theme in the development of Chivalry 2.
Tripwire Interactive officially announced Chivalry 2 at E3 2019 during the PC Gaming Show. The game was in open beta from May 27 to June 1, 2021, leading up to its release. Initially, the game was only available on Microsoft Windows through the Epic Games Store for its first year. Later, its coverage expanded to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, supporting cross-platform play.
