The Coachella Music Festival, officially the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, is an annual event held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Founded in 1999 by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen and hosted by Goldenvoice, the festival showcases a variety of music genres, including rock, pop, indie, hip-hop and electronic dance music. In addition to music, Coachella also showcases captivating art installations and sculptures on multiple stages.

The festival’s origins can be traced back to a Pearl Jam concert in 1993, and the first festival was held three months after the 1999 Woodstock Music Festival. Over the years, Coachella has grown from a single-day event to a two-day event in 2002 and finally to a three-day weekend event in 2007, with a second weekend launching in 2012 Activity. It failed to remain profitable in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The success of Coachella has led to more music festivals being held at the same venue, including Stagecoach, Big 4 and Desert Trip.
