Advanced mode in CS2
The Premier mode in CS2 is a special competitive mode that is more serious than the regular competitive mode. This is Valve’s official way of competing with third-party matchmaking services like FACEIT. In this mode, there is a unique ranking system called “CS Rating” that focuses on individual skill level rather than group ranking. It also features a global leaderboard that showcases the top 1,000 players worldwide or in a specific region. This will give players a clearer goal if their goal is to be the best in the game. In addition, the Premier mode in CS2 uses a map ban system, which is a common feature in professional esports competitions. Teams take turns banning specific maps until a final map is chosen, and then one team decides which side to start on.

All Advanced Mode maps in Counter-Strike 2
In Counter-Strike 2’s advanced mode, seven maps are available:
- ancient
- Anubis
- hell
- mirage
- nuclear bomb
- overpass
- Vertigo
All of these maps are queued at the same time, which means you can’t select specific options. This encourages players to diversify in their map preferences, although if you’re not too confident about certain maps you can still strategize with smart bans.

In the new Counter-Strike game Counter-Strike 2, there are two main competitive modes: Advanced Mode and Competitive Mode. Here’s a simple breakdown of the differences between them:
CS2 Premium:
- In Premier, you start with no ranking or rating.
- To earn your first CS rating, you need to win at least 10 CS2 Premier games.
- These placement matches determine your initial CS rating based on your performance (win or lose) and your opponent’s rating.
- If you win a match against a player with a higher rating, you will get a higher rating.
- You will then be matched with players of similar skill levels.
- Winning can earn you points, losing can cost you points, and draws can also have different effects on your rating.
- Premier uses a pick and ban system for maps, with teams deciding which maps to play via majority rule.
CS2 Competitive:
- The mode is similar to the ranked mode in previous versions of Counter-Strike (CSGO).
- Players can individually select which maps they want to play on without having to go through a pick and ban process.
- Ranking is map specific, so you can set different rankings for different maps.
- For example, you might be a global elite on Mirage, but have a different ranking on Vertigo.
In short, Premier focuses on gaining a CS rating through placement matches, with an emphasis on map bans. Competitive mode, on the other hand, is more like traditional ranked play in CSGO, with map-specific rankings.

What is the difference between CS2 Premier and Competitive?
How Premier works in CS2:
- Premier uses a system where both teams vote on the map they want to play.
- The first team banned two maps, the second team banned three maps, and the last team banned.
- The remaining maps are the ones played, with the second team choosing their starting side: CT or T.
Premier CS2 map selection:
- Players vote on which maps are banned.
- The map with the most ban votes will no longer be considered.
Premier CS2 Rankings and Ratings:
- Instead of using skill groups, Premier uses a new metric called CS Rating.
- CS Rating is like a ranking that shows you how you compare to others globally, in your region, and among your friends.
- Each season resets and there is a global leaderboard.
How competition works in CS2:
- Competitive mode is very similar to the mode in CS: GO.
- You choose the maps you want to play and only face players queued for those same maps.
CS2 Competitive Rankings and Ratings:
- Unlike CS: GO, competitive mode in CS2 has specific skill sets for each map.
- Your skill set only changes for the map you play, not all maps.
- Players’ goal is to become the global elite on all eligible maps.
In a nutshell, Premier involves a map voting system and uses CS ratings for ranking. Competitive mode is similar to CS:GO, but now has specific skill sets for each map you play.

In CS2 Competitive, players can choose the map they want to play on. They select from a list and will only face other players who have selected the same map. It’s a bit like how it worked in the previous game, CS:GO.
One big change is how skill groups are handled. In CS2, your skill sets are specific to each map. So if you do well on one map but poorly on another, it won’t affect your ranking on the first map. Our goal is to reach the highest level of “Global Elite” on all allowed maps.
