Dan Smyers:

Dan Smyers was born on August 16, 1987, and grew up in Wexford, Pennsylvania. He discovered his love for music at the age of 12 and later attended Carnegie Mellon University to study finance and play football. However, his love for music brought him to Nashville in 2010, where he pursued his dream after graduating from college.

Prior to forming Dan + Shay, Smyers was a member of an emo band called Transition, which toured and released music. He plays vocals, guitar, bass, and piano. In 2016, Smyers became engaged to Abby Lowe, and they tied the knot in 2017. They are passionate about rescuing dogs and as of March 2021, they have five dogs.

Shay Mooney:

Shay Mooney was born on December 27, 1991, and grew up in Natural Dam, Arkansas. He began writing songs at age 14 and learned to play guitar at age 16. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended Valley Forge Christian Academy before devoting himself full-time to music.

Mooney had a record deal with rapper T-Pain, but the deal ended when he formed the band Dan + Shay. He is good at vocals, piano and guitar. In 2017, Mooney and his fiancée Hannah Billingsley welcomed their first son, Asher James Mooney, and married later that year. In 2020, they had their second son, Ames Alexander Mooney.
