While Nick was always willing to push the limits of his job, Den of Thieves 2 sees him going one step further and joining the opposing team. By Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s ending, Nick has both turned Donnie in and seemingly helped him escape, setting up yet another story for the two.

With its slightly more polished feeling heist story, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has surpassed the original’s Rotten Tomatoes score. This positive reception feels fitting as the movie keeps audiences hooked with its suspenseful heist and ending twist until the credits roll. Additionally, Den of Thieves 3 has already been confirmed, proving that the series has the ability to become a future mainstay of the action crime genre, and as with any good series, there are several entertaining returning characters.

‘Big Nick’ O’Brien (Gerard Butler)
Butler Returns As The Main Character
Close
Unsurprisingly, Gerard Butler is back as Nick O’Brien in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, as he is the main character in both films. In the first movie, Nick or “Big Nick” is introduced as a detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He is rough around the edges and willing to use harsh tactics to get results. He also has trouble with his family as he cheats on his wife, causing her to leave him. Throughout the first film, Nick is consumed by the need to take down Ray Merriman and his team, whom Nick believes to be robbing a bank in Downtown LA.

After Den of Thieves‘ ending reveals that Ray Merriman was never the mastermind of the bank robbery and that the true perpetrator, Donnie, got away, Den of Thieves 2 picks up with Nick’s character in a rocky state. After meeting with Holly, Nick decides to travel to Europe to force his way into Donnie’s new crew to carry out a diamond heist. Nick eventually comes to see the crew as his friends, but he still turns them over to the authorities. However, the final moments of the film indicate that he may have other allegiances yet.

Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.)
Donnie Reluctantly Teams Up With Nick In The New Installment
Close
Like Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr. also plays an important role in both Den of Thieves movies. Jackson portrays Donnie who, in the first film, is a member of Merriman’s team. Donnie is a bartender who initially admits to being a getaway driver for the crew. He passes information to Nick seemingly to help foil the robbery, but everything is not as it seems. In fact, Donnie ends up being the mastermind of the entire robbery. At the end of the movie, Donnie gets the money and gets away, allowing him to be perfectly positioned for a new heist in the sequel.
As in the original, Donnie proves himself to be smart and assured when planning and carrying out the heist.
In Den of Thieves 2: Pantera O’Shea Jackson Jr. returns as Donnie and is central to planning another heist. As in the original, Donnie proves himself to be smart and assured when planning and carrying out the heist. In a twist, Donnie is forced to work together with Big Nick in Den of Thieves 2, and their collaboration is supremely entertaining. At the end of the film, it is revealed that, despite being turned in by Nick, he is free again and potentially working for the mafia.
3
Holly (Meadow Williams)
Holly’s Influence Sets Up Nick’s Role In The Heist
Knowing the trouble that Nick is getting into concerning his marriage, Holly shows up in the first Den of Thieves movie to seduce Nick and feed him the wrong information. Holly does truly care for Merriman and only approaches Nick at his request. After seducing him, Holly then confirms with Merriman that she shared what he wanted. While Holly is on Merriman’s side, their relationship is complex as she spent so long apart from him while he was in prison and ultimately ended up losing the man she loved anyway.
This same sense of loss and anger is present when Holly shows up again in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Nick reappears in her life to ask about what Donnie and Merriman’s future plans were she reveals what happened to the money. After everything that has happened, Holly wants a cut of the money for herself and coerces Nick to get it for her. While she is not a main character in the movie, she does play a pivotal role in setting Nick on the path to Donnie.

Bob (Jordan Bridges)
The Straight-Laced Character Serves As An Opposite To Nick
Big Nick’s interactions with Bob in the first Den of Thieves tells audiences everything they need to know about the character and Nick’s thoughts on him. When Nick sees the agent approach his crime scene, he immediately becomes angry, and it is clear that the two have history. Where Nick is tough and willing to bend the rules in order to get the results that he wants, Bob is exactly the opposite. Bob’s straight-laced personality sees him do things by the book, even when other methods could be more effective.

The difference between Bob and Nick’s personalities and methods becomes even more pronounced in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera since Big Nick seemingly switches sides. Jordan Bridges reprises the role early in the second film when Nick meets with the special agent to get more information before going overseas to go after Donnie.

Connor (Michael Bisping)
The MMA Fighter Reprises His Role
Close
Michael Bisping’s Connor also reprises his role from the ending of the first Den of Thieves to become a more important character in the second movie. Connor does not play a big role in the first film, as he only appears to recruit Donnie at the very end of the movie after he has fled the United States with his money. The biggest significance of his role, then, is setting up the second film and Donnie’s return.
Following this set up, it is exciting to see the MMA fighter take on a fitting role in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera as a member of the team. Bisping’s real-life persona as a tough fighter helps bring his character some realism and adds excitement. Ultimately, Bisping’s Connor is an interesting addition to the heist and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera as a whole.
