Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The upcoming game Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is produced by Square Enix and is expected to be released on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. It is the sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake and the second part of a planned trilogy of games that retell the story of the 1997 PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII.

Like its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth blends action with strategy and role-playing elements. Following the events of the remake, players control mercenary Cloud Strife and his friends from the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE. Their mission is to stop the megacorporation Shinra from using the life force of planets (called Lifestream) as a power source. They must also defeat the powerful enemy Sephiroth, who wants to gain more power by merging with planets.

The game began production in November 2019, even before the remake was released, and was announced in June 2022. Many of the people involved in the remake are also working on this game, with Tetsuya Nomura serving as creative director and Naoki Hamaguchi as director.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game in the series, retelling the story of the original Final Fantasy VII game from 1997. It continues the plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020), with the protagonists escaping the large city of Midgar.

In the game, the player mainly controls a man named Cloud Strife. He used to work for a company called Shinra, but now he joins a group called Avalanche to fight against Shinra because they are harming Earth. They also have to deal with a powerful enemy named Sephiroth, who is believed to be dead.

Exploration and combat in the game all happen in real time. The world is more open than in the previous game, with markers showing where you need to go to complete the main story or side quests. You can walk or ride Chocobos (large birds) to get around faster.

Combat combines fast-paced melee attacks with special abilities and magic. You can switch between different characters during combat and use items to heal or attack. There is also a new feature called “Synergy” where characters can team up for more powerful attacks, but it takes longer to recover.

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth follows the storyline set by its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and reimagines the plot, world, and characters of the original Final Fantasy VII game. The game takes place on a planet called “Planet,” and focuses on the protagonists’ journey as they strive to overthrow the oppressive Shinra Electric Power Company.

The corporation controls the city of Midgar by tapping into the planet’s life force, the Lifestream, with the main goal being to stop Sephiroth, a powerful soldier thought dead, from summoning meteors to harm the planet and gain divine power.

The protagonist, Claude Strife, is the leader of the game’s core team. A former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit, he currently works as a mercenary for the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE. Joining Claude is the group’s daring leader, Barrett Wallace, and Claude’s childhood friend and compassionate martial artist, Tifa Lockhart.

Along with them are Aerith Gainsborough, the last survivor of ancient Cetra, Red XIII, an intelligent creature held captive by Shinra, and Yuffie Kisaragi, a skilled Materia thief and ninja. Throughout the game, players will encounter other characters such as Aerith’s ex-boyfriend Zack Fair and Vincent Valentine, a former Turk who was experimented on by Shinra.

Supporting characters add a lot to the story, such as Cait Sith, who is controlled by Shinra’s Reeve Tuesti, and Cid Highwind, a determined pilot dedicated to space flight. These characters, as well as new characters such as Bugenhagen and Elena, contribute to the immersive narrative of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
