Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Platform

Sony announced at its State of Play event in September 2023 that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. The news comes nearly four years after the release of the first installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. While a release date for the third and final installment remains unannounced, creative director Tetsuya Nomura assured fans that development is ongoing.

As of now, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is only available on PlayStation 5. While this may disappoint fans who played the first part on PlayStation 4, Square Enix has confirmed that this exclusivity period will last for three months. After this, there is a possibility that the game will be released on PC.

However, it is currently uncertain whether it will be available on other platforms such as Xbox, especially considering that the original game is still not playable on that platform. Therefore, the PlayStation 5 remains the exclusive platform for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the foreseeable future.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an upcoming action role-playing game from Square Enix, due to be released on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. It follows Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and is the second in a planned trilogy that remakes the 1997 PlayStation classic.

Like its predecessor, this game blends real-time action with strategy and role-playing elements. The game takes place after the events of the remake, and players will lead the mercenary Cloud Strife and his team from the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE. Their mission: to travel across planets and stop the super-corporation Shinra from using its life force Lifestream as an energy source. They also aim to stop Sephiroth, a former elite soldier who is trying to merge with planets to gain more power.

Production on the remake began ahead of its release in November 2019, with the game set to be released in June 2022. The core team from the previous game returns, with Tetsuya Nomura now serving as creative director and Naoki Hamaguchi as director. This ensures continuity while bringing a new perspective to the development of this highly anticipated sequel.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of a trilogy that retells the story of the 1997 PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII. It follows the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020), with the protagonists escaping the city of Midgar. The player primarily controls Claude Strife, a former soldier of the Shinra Corporation, who joins an organization called AVALANCHE to fight against Shinra, which has been destroying the life energy of the Earth.

They also face off against Sephiroth, a powerful figure who was thought to be dead. Similar to Remake, Rebirth reimagines parts of the original game while adding more depth to character development and the overall story. The gameplay consists of real-time exploration and combat. This world is much more open compared to the linear structure of Midgar in Remake.

Players are guided by markers that indicate main story quests and side quests. Additionally, they can ride a chocobo to travel faster. Reborn expands on the action-based combat and Active Time Battle (ATB) systems from Reborn. Characters can switch freely during battle and use a variety of attacks, magic, and items. A new feature called Synergy allows characters to team up for more powerful attacks, but it slows down the recharge of the ATB bar.
