fighting methods
In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are two different ways to fight Geringot Thom. The first and more direct method involves fighting her and the menacing floating skulls that surround her. While challenging, this route can also be rewarding. Gerringothe Thorm has an impressive 600 HP, mostly thanks to her golden armor.
To win this battle, first destroy her golden armor, which is where most of her health comes from. The key is to target the floating skulls around her. When you decide to eliminate one of them, make sure they stay close to Geringot. Once destroyed, these skulls explode, causing severe damage to her armor.
By eliminating enough of these skulls, the armor that makes up the bulk of Geringot’s health will collapse. This greatly simplifies combat. However, be careful to avoid being overwhelmed by floating skulls, as positioning is crucial.
When her armor is gone, the fight with Geringot becomes more manageable. Still, stay alert for the rest of the fight, as she uses gold as a weapon, dealing a lot of damage. Keeping your distance is still crucial when luring her into a skull blast.
Alternatively, you can choose not to fight Gerringothe at all and let her do the job.
Persuasion
If your character has high Charisma or you have Astarion in your party, diplomacy can be your weapon of choice to bypass unnecessary combat. As is customary in Thom battles, talking to Geringot can yield very satisfying results. Go to the top of the toll booth and start a cutscene with Gerringothe.

Make sure your most charismatic or deceptive character dominates the conversation. After initial contact, she will ask for an unspecified toll. Give her a gold coin first and she will ask for more. Continuing to offer gold shows her desire for all your current gold.
Refusing the gold will trigger a fight, redirecting you to the previous section of this guide. However, if you choose the persuasion route, follow these steps for success:
Step 1: Give her a gold coin and ask what you received in return.
Step 2: Wait until she says, “You can cross the river, but first you have to pay.”
Step 3: Use deception and claim that you are the new toll collector sent to replace her.
Step 4: Convince her to give you all the gold coins to finally defeat Geringot.
When Geringot depletes her gold, she explodes, winning without engaging in combat, ending the encounter.

Geringot Thom’s position in Baldur’s Gate 3
After entering Act II and venturing into the Shadow-cursed Lands in Baldur’s Gate 3, your first task is to find the Last Inn of Light, which offers a safe haven. Once you’ve settled in, the next step is to find the Tollgate Bridge that leads to the west of the Shadow Blasted Lands.
To reach this destination, head south from the Last Light Inn, where you’ll encounter three unique bridges leading to the west. Select the middle bridge that remains intact and move on.
Here you’ll find the Toll Gate, its exterior marred by the twisted roots of an evil Shadow Curse. Climb to the top of the tollbooth, where you’ll encounter floating skulls and a strange figure wearing gold-plated armor. This character was once Gerringothe Thorm, now so completely consumed by the Shadow Curse that she has lost her mind and is focused on one goal: collecting tolls.
