Game issues
- Fixed an issue where grabbing a disappearing object could cause the game to crash in rare circumstances
- Added additional code to account for strange behavior in the pause menu, which could cause the game to crash under very specific circumstances
- Fixed an issue where Hardware Barrier might not activate properly; the shield effect would appear but not actually protect you from damage
- Fixed a visual issue where hardware barriers remained when you completed a stage and the technology was active
- Fixed a visual issue where having the hardware barrier active could cause some strange visual effects during cutscenes
- Fixed an issue where, due to a coding oversight, jumps activated through the game’s jump buffer could inadvertently cancel burst tech activations
- Changed Kai’s control code slightly as it first checks for burst tech activation before any other button input. This helps resolve any unintentional “double hop cancel burst” errors.
- Fixed visual offset issue on Trashfly Hive enemies when caught by Paradise Piledriver
- Fixed an issue where certain bosses could get stuck in mid-air under certain circumstances, requiring you to restart the fight by reloading the checkpoint
- Fixed an issue where if you pressed Crouching Jab before some special NPC interaction in HQ, Kai’s controls could become locked after trying to leave that interaction
- Fixed an issue where Kai’s controls could become locked when Kai was frozen or stuck while performing a crouching jab in a mountain or junkyard
- Fixed an issue related to using Gravity Freeze to counter a specific attack that one of the game’s bosses could perform
- Fixed an issue where Chain Dasher might not be able to grab the target object if the hook button was held down at the end of a dash and the target was eligible for grab
- Fixed a game crash that could occur when using supported platforms
- Fixed a softlock that could occur if Kai was crushed during a screen interruption (such as a toggle block in cyberspace)
- Fixed an issue where throwing a chain sprinter while Kai was standing on the ground could cause grabbed enemies to randomly warp
- Fixed a visual issue with the Virus Mob enemy when being caught by Paradise Piledriver while the chain is extending
- Fixed a visual issue when grabbing an enemy object with a hook shot, where the enemy could move a few frames when Kai performed the pull-in motion. This is most likely to happen when catching an enemy after piling up in Paradise
- Due to a small oversight, the data chip count could be as high as 82 out of 80, as the game interprets incorrect data as picked up data chips. This bug has been fixed and additional code has been added to correct any affected save files on game launch. This bug does not affect achievements, it just displays incorrect visuals on the game completion screen and file selection.
- Fixed a game crash due to the Float Rider platform retaining momentum when entering the mini-boss cutscene trigger in Highway
- Fixed an issue where Diving Kick could be canceled with the Burst Technique, leaving the lingering attack stacking effect and lingering hitbox attached to Kai
- Fixed a situation where some enemies might continue their normal behavior if they were heavenly knocked into spikes or a lava pit, or if Kai was crushed. In this case bring about the destruction of said enemy.
- Fixed unintentional interaction with moving platforms and an enemy type in one of the later stages.
- Fixed an issue where a game crash could occur if the game took longer than expected to load a Research Compendium resource and the game attempted to update the object sprite to be displayed.
- Added a precaution to one of the cutscene triggers in one of the final stages to ensure Kai doesn’t fly over the cutscene trigger too hard due to any power shenanigans
Gameplay adjustments
- Make Emergency Heal and Hardware Barrier “invincible” for the duration of their activation (i.e. the time between activation and the player regaining control) to better ensure these technologies achieve their specified effects without some weird interaction prevents them
- Can crouch and perform a crouch jab on the same frame, as previously these had to be processed in two consecutive frames, which could result in lost input (crouching but not being able to jab)
- You can crouch out of a sprint as long as you only maintain a downward direction. Previously you had to slow down enough to crouch to register.
- Paradise Piledriver accidentally catches an enemy that was overkilled. However, instead of removing this, additional code was added to ensure that overkilled enemies are destroyed upon completion of Paradise Piledriver.
- If you hold down the run button, Kai can gain sprint speed after sliding off a ledge
- If you hold down the run button, you can gain sprint speed after letting go of the wall slide
- Added more “safe zones” so Kai can respawn if he falls into the pit near the junkyard mini-boss
Miscellaneous:
- Tweaked language handling and how it is saved in the player’s user profile
- Minor modifications to Japanese localization (e.g. one achievement incorrectly used the wrong name for a character)
- Worked on improving text rendering performance. This was done for the console port, but may help running the game on older computers.
- The game completion screen now clearly displays time down to centiseconds instead of just seconds.
- The game completion screen now also displays your summary research completion rate (expressed in ###%) rather than just your data chip collection rate (expressed in ##/80)
