Unlike its predecessor, which used a top-down perspective, Hellraiser 2 uses a third-person perspective reminiscent of movie presentations. Like the original, Hellraiser 2 offers players the option to choose from a variety of strategies–special items that drop into the game during gameplay.

On September 13, 2021, a leak on GeForce Now hinted at the game, sparked by a weekday video on TikTok from a member of the Arrowhead Game Studios team, which provided a glimpse of the game’s trailer.

Hellraiser 2 was officially announced on May 24, 2023, during the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, setting the stage for a planned release later that year. A gameplay video released on July 6, 2023 provided insight into the game, and speculation on July 30, 2023 suggested that the game could be released in October 2023.

On the same day, the ESRB rated Hellraiser 2 an M rating for gore, violence, and intense violence. On September 14, 2023, during the State of Play PlayStation event, another gameplay showcase was held, confirming the official release date of February 8, 2024, with pre-orders starting on September 22, 2023.
