Splatoon 3
Released in 2022 for Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo, and is the third installment in the Splatoon series, following Splatoon 2. Similar to its predecessor, Splatoon 3 offers a dynamic gameplay experience, including online multiplayer modes (player vs. player and player vs. environment) and an engaging single-player campaign, all centered around engaging ink-based combat.
Splatoon 3’s journey began with a trailer released on February 17, 2021, which aroused the anticipation of game fans. The game was officially released on September 9, 2022. Initial reviews of Splatoon 3 were generally positive, praising its enhanced maps, engaging single-player campaign, diverse customization options, and innovative game mechanics. However, it was also criticized for matchmaking and disconnection issues, as well as concerns about the scarcity of new content.

The heart of Splatoon 3 lies in its ink-based combat system, which allows players to fight using a variety of ink-based weapons. Unique to the game is that players can transform into squids and swim in ink of the same color as their team, giving them a strategic advantage in both offense and defense. This innovative mechanic has been a hallmark of the Splatoon series, contributing to its unique gameplay.
Splatoon 3 offers a robust multiplayer experience, allowing players to compete against each other in player-versus-player (PvP) matches. Vibrant and colorful arenas, called maps, serve as battlegrounds for teams to compete for dominance by covering the environment with their team’s ink. The game’s success is attributed to its engaging multiplayer modes, which foster competition and teamwork between players.
In addition to the multiplayer component, Splatoon 3 introduces an immersive single-player campaign. This single-player adventure will take players through a compelling story as they uncover the mysteries of the Splatoon universe. The campaign is designed to provide players with a unique and challenging experience, incorporating elements that are different from the fast-paced nature of multiplayer battles.
Customization plays a big role in Splatoon 3, with players able to personalize their Inkling characters using a variety of clothing, accessories, and weapons. This feature strengthens the player’s connection to their character and adds a layer of personalization to the gaming experience. The game’s success in capturing player creativity has been highlighted as a positive aspect.
Despite the positive reviews, Splatoon 3 has been criticized in some quarters. Matchmaking and disconnection issues were pointed out as areas that could be improved to enhance the overall gaming experience. Additionally, there were concerns about the lack of new content for the game, suggesting that more updates or expansions may be needed to attract players.
Splatoon 3 has been a huge commercial success, with 11.71 million copies sold worldwide as of December 31, 2023. This staggering sales figure makes it the fastest-selling game in the Splatoon series and among the best-selling Nintendo Switch games. The game’s commercial success highlights its popularity among players and its impact on the gaming community.
All in all, Splatoon 3 continues the Splatoon series’ legacy with engaging gameplay, innovative ink combat, and a fusion of multiplayer and single-player experiences. While it was well received for various elements such as maps, customization, and a single-player campaign, some issues were also identified. Nevertheless, its commercial success has cemented Splatoon 3’s position as an important and influential new member of the Nintendo Switch game library.
How many floors are there in Side Order in Splatoon 3?

In Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC, players will embark on a challenging climb up the Tower of Order, with the goal of conquering each of its floors. Want to know how many floors you need to conquer to successfully complete the game? Let’s get into the details.
Splatoon 3: Side Order introduces the Tower of Order, which consists of 30 floors in total. To successfully complete a round, players need to pass all 30 floors before losing their last life. While climbing, players will encounter standard floors and boss floors, the latter of which appear every 10 floors. As players rise, they will encounter vending machines that offer the opportunity to use Membux and Keys, both of which are important elements marked on the game map.
While the goal is to beat 30 floors in Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC, it’s important to realize that these floors are not fixed in the campaign. Instead, each run generates uniquely designed floors with different layouts, objectives, hazards, etc. This variability ensures that each run provides a unique experience and no two runs are exactly the same.
In addition to the dynamic nature of each playthrough, players are faced with choices when approaching a new floor, choosing from three options almost every time. Even though the floor plan of the Tower of Order is fixed, the choice mechanic brings huge variations, allowing players to navigate the tower in a variety of ways. This aspect greatly enhances the high replayability of the single-player Splatoon 3 campaign, ensuring that completing the game does not mean that the player’s participation in the DLC ends.
It is important to note that if a player exhausts their last life before reaching floor 30, they will be ejected from the Tower of Order and must start over. However, not all progress is lost, as any Color Chips and Membux accumulated prior to their unfortunate death are converted to Prlz. This currency is extremely useful in obtaining permanent upgrades from Marina in Splatoon 3. These upgrades include extra lives, enhanced capabilities for the Pearl Drone, and more, giving players an advantage on subsequent runs and boosting their journey to conquer the top floors of the Spire.
Splatoon 3 Gameplay
Splatoon 3 follows the style of previous games in the series and is a third-person shooter game where players can choose to be either an Inkling or an Octoling as their character. The main feature of the game is the use of various weapons that use colored ink as ammunition.
Players can choose from a variety of weapons, each with unique abilities and appearances. For example, Rollers are like large paint rollers that can cover large areas with ink, but are most effective in close combat. Chargers, on the other hand, are similar to sniper rifles, with long-range sniping capabilities, but are less effective when painting the ground. Splatoon 3 introduces new primary weapons, secondary weapons, and special weapons, expanding the arsenal available to players.
Primary weapons can be selected by the player, secondary weapons are paired with primary weapons as a secondary option that consumes more ink, and special weapons are tied to specific primary weapons and require the player to cover the ground with varying amounts of ink to recharge. Inklings and Octolings both have the unique ability to transform into a squid or octopus form, called “Swim Form”. This form allows them to climb ink-covered walls and swim through ink faster than a humanoid.
Inkling and Octoling weapons have a limited amount of ink ammunition, and players can refill their ammunition faster by immersing themselves in ink in swimming form, but not in humanoid form. The game retains the essence of its predecessors, restoring all the basic weapons from early Splatoon games.
All in all, Splatoon 3 continues the series’ fascinating third-person shooter experience, allowing players to choose Inklings and Octolings with different abilities. The wide range of weapons, including new ones, adds strategic depth to the game. The transforming swimming form provides unique movement options, and the addition of familiar weapons ensures continuity with the beloved elements of previous Splatoon games.

Splatoon 3 Plot
Following old squid Craig Squidward into a crater filled with dangerous hairy ooze, players are recruited by the Squidwards into the new Squidbeak Splatoon as Agent 3, along with their salmon pet Fishy. Fishy has the ability to consume and eliminate some of the ooze, allowing them to travel deeper into the crater. Inside, they face hairy Octarian enemies, who the Squidwards suspect are behind the theft of the Splatsville power supply Big Zapfish.
At the bottom of the crater, Octarian leader DJ Octavio accuses Cuttlefish of taking his warriors and denies any involvement in Zapfish’s disappearance. After Octavio is defeated, the ground collapses and Cuttlefish and Agent 3 fall into the remains of the underground city of Alterna, which was transformed into a base by the obscure Octarians.
In Alterna, Agent 3 meets Callie and Marie from the new Squidbeak Splatoon, as well as Captain, the protagonist from the first game. They discover that Cuttlefish is missing, and meet the idol group Deep Cut, believing that both are searching for treasure in Alterna.
With the help of an AI named ORCA, they explore the city in search of Cuttlefish, and keep receiving signals from Deep Cut, leading to a conflict between the two sides over the seemingly worthless “treasure”. It is revealed that Mr. Grizz, the CEO of Grizzco and organizer of the Salmon Run, has kidnapped Cuttlefish, captured the Great Zapfish, and commands the Octarian army. Mr. Grizz’s goal is to use the Fuzzy Ooze to transform life into mammals, with the goal of restoring mammal life on Earth.
After defeating all members of Deep Cut, their true intention of selling the treasure for charity is revealed. They team up with Splatoon to fight Mr. Grizz. They use the treasure to build a cutting device and reach the rocket in the center of Alterna, where Cuttlefish is being held captive.
To their dismay, Mr. Grizz has “dehydrated” the squid to extract its “essence”. Mr. Grizz unveils his plan to detonate the rocket, cover the Earth in fuzzy ooze, and sacrifice other life forms to resurrect mammals. Skipper uses his tears to revive the squid, while Deep Cut helps Agent 3 reach the rocket using their tamed eels and sharks. With the support of DJ Octavio and Smallfry, Agent 3 transforms into his “Hugefry” form, resembling a giant salmon, defeating Mr. Grizz and destroying the rocket.
Agent 3, the gang, and Octavio return to Earth with the Big Zapfish, while Mr. Grizz floats through space during the end credits. The epic journey across Alterna highlights themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the struggle to preserve life under the perilous recovery plan.
