How to find the mortar in the cage?

Enshrouded’s Alchemist quest “The Alchemist’s Mortar” will guide players in finding and retrieving the mortar. Below is a step-by-step guide to finding the mortar, including basic supplies, routes, and unlocking the mortar room.
Alchemist’s Mortar Quest
- The Alchemist assigns the task of obtaining the Mortar, and marks its location on the map as the Alchemist’s Tower in Lone Thistle. The player should prepare food, water, bandages, healing potions, weapons, and firepowder orbs.
Discover the Alchemist’s Tower
- From Springlands Spire, players can head north to the Farmer’s Vault. You can choose the Revelwood area to face level 11 enemies, or take the “back road” for a less intense encounter. The Alchemist’s Tower is clearly visible above Shroud.
Enter the Tower
- The entrance to the tower is located at the highest point of Lonely Thistle. Players may encounter enemies along the way, but there will not be any enemies inside the tower. Explore thoroughly to obtain valuable loot.

Find the necessary mortar
- The mortar is located in the basement, accessible via a staircase on the first floor of the tower. Players can find a button inside the tower to open the door, or use a gunpowder ball to break into the cell and bypass the button search.
Use powder balls for crushing
- Players with gunpowder shells can break the stones around the gate to easily obtain the mortar. Alternatively, players can find the button on the second floor to open the cell, which can be seen through the outer platform.
Unveiling the Mortar Cell
- On the second floor, go to the third floor and find an opening with rubble and a journal entry to find the button that causes the back pain. Interact with the button to open the cell and allow the player to grab the mortar. Return home, place the mortar, and then talk to the alchemist to complete the quest.
