Hozier’s upcoming album was produced against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, a testament to his efforts over the past two years to understand this complex situation. Influenced by Dante’s Inferno, which he composed during that period, the structure of the album was derived from the concept of the nine circles of hell.
Hozier describes the album as “quite eclectic”, incorporating retrospective elements into its sonic landscape. While the singles on the EP exemplify his musical exploration, he admits they don’t cover the entirety of the album’s diverse soundscape. The upcoming album will be a fascinating musical journey reflecting a transformative period in history.
