Hunt: Showdown
Hunt: Showdown is a shooting game in which you play as a bounty hunter. The goal is to hunt down and defeat terrifying creatures to collect rewards. But it’s not just the monsters you have to worry about – other players are trying to do the same thing, and you have to survive them too.
The game was originally made by another team who wanted to make a game similar to Darksiders. This is supposed to be a game people play together. But due to funding issues, the team had to stop. Then another team from Germany’s Crytek took over and changed the game. They made it into Hunt: Showdown, which is more about competing against other players on a large map that looks like an open world.
When Hunt: Showdown came out, a lot of people loved it because it had new, fun ways to play. But some players are having trouble playing the game on consoles – they say it doesn’t run as well as the PC version, or doesn’t get enough help and updates.

Hunt: Showdown is a game where you hunt terrifying creatures in two different ways. In Bounty Hunt, you play as a bounty hunter aiming to find and defeat one of five big bosses to earn a reward. You can team up with two other players or go it alone. The game’s map is like an open world, full of dangers and enemies. You collect clues to find out where the monster is hiding. Facing different monsters, you can use various weapons such as shotguns and crossbows to fight against them.
Ammo is limited, so you have to make every shot count. Players can also use traps and bait. Once you defeat the monster, you get rewards and try to survive until you reach the escape point. The exit location changes each game. Earning rewards allows you to see other nearby players, but it also reveals your location to everyone. You can steal other people’s rewards, adding a strategic twist. Each game can have up to 12 players.
The second mode, “Soul Survivor” (formerly known as “Quick Play”), is like a battle royale lasting 15 minutes. You start with basic equipment and need to find and activate 4 rifts on the map. Once you activate the fourth, you become a Source Bearer. Your goal is to protect yourself from others until the end, or drain the source long enough. The winner keeps their collected gear and abilities for use in Bounty Hunting mode.
The Hunt: Showdown Development
Vigil Games produced the Darksiders games but were shut down in 2013 due to the bankruptcy of the company they worked for. Another gaming company, Crytek, wanted to acquire Vigil Games, but they didn’t because their games didn’t fit in with Crytek’s plans. Despite this, Crytek hired Vigil Games boss David Adams to lead their new studio in the United States, called Crytek USA. They also hired many people who had worked at Vigil.
Crytek USA wants to make a new game called The Hunt: Terror of the Gilded Age. The game will allow four players to work together. It’s set in the late 1800s and features old-fashioned weapons and professions. They wanted it to feel like the era it was set in. Players can dress up their characters in different styles and use different skills.
But things have changed. What was supposed to be a game about cooperating against monsters turned into Hunt: Showdown. It still has the feel of a Darksiders game, mixing old style stuff with new ideas. It has many different monsters and bosses. They use special game-making tools to ensure each game has a different feel. The game is made using a special game engine called CryEngine.
Later, Crytek ran into some funding problems. They stopped development on Hunt: Showdown and let Crytek USA help other companies use their game-making tools. Some people at Crytek USA, including David Adams, left because they weren’t being paid properly.
But in 2017, Crytek said they were still working on Hunter: Showdown. They changed the name and plan to let people try it out early on a platform called Steam. They let some players test the game before it was fully released. An Xbox version also launched in 2019.
