Blake Youngstad’s early life
Sammie Marquez Benson, known professionally as Blac Youngsta, was born on April 8, 1990, and grew up on McMillan Street, a poor neighborhood in South Memphis, Tennessee. He was raised by his grandparents along with his brothers. Despite their efforts, the family struggled financially and providing enough food was a challenge.
When Benson was seven, his grandfather helped him find a job at a local grocery store. However, Benson was later fired when the manager discovered that he had been placing false orders to bring food home for himself and his brother. After losing that job, Benson turned to selling drugs, which led to multiple jail terms on drug and gun-related charges.
In 2012, a year into his incarceration, Benson began organizing local block parties, which made him popular among the South Memphis community. Encouraged by the positive response, he decided to pursue a career in music. His musical journey began with the release of his debut mixtape “Fast Bricks” in 2012.
