Is Jun still alive in Tekken 8?
Yes, in Tekken 8, Jun Kazama is revealed to be alive. For years, fans believed she died at the hands of Ogre in Tekken 3, but the latest installment in the series clarifies her fate. According to the game’s story mode and character arcs, Jun Kazama fought Ogre on Yakushima and escaped to the Kazama Sanctuary, narrowly escaping death. She reappears in Tekken 8 after waking up from what she calls “the long nightmare.”
This confirms that she never actually died in Tekken 3; instead, she was in hiding. Game director Katsuhiro Harada mentioned in an interview that they never explicitly said she was killed, but many people assumed so. The confirmation in Tekken 8 adds a new dimension to Jun’s character in the series, suggesting that she may play a major role in future sequels.
Tekken 8
Released on January 26, 2024, Tekken 8 is a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Arika and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, and is the eighth canon entry and the tenth installment in the Tekken series. The story mode is set six months after the previous game, titled “Dark Awakening”, and revolves around the final conflict between father and son Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, who attempts to end the turmoil in their family by defeating their father.
The development of Tekken 8 was first hinted at in August 2022, and was officially announced at Sony’s State of Play event the following month. The game utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to introduce new mechanics such as the “heat” system and “tornado” strikes, as well as upgraded combat elements. Online modes include “arcade missions”, which include tournaments, customizable avatars, and unique in-game currencies.

Tekken 8 Gameplay
Tekken 8 retains the familiar fighting game style of its predecessors while bringing some exciting updates to the gameplay. Producer Katsuhiro Harada emphasized a more offensive approach that rewards players for proactively attacking rather than defending. Introducing a new feature called “Heat,” activating a state that not only causes chip damage and additional moves, but also changes the properties of certain moves, such as heavy defense breakthroughs. Characters in the “Heat” state can sprint to cancel their moves, providing a strategic advantage. If the fighter uses their moves effectively, the timer for Heat can be stopped.
The game has undergone a technical update, with changes to the “Rage” system, where “Rage Drive” is transformed into “Heat Smash”, a powerful super move of the Heat System. The “Spiral” mechanism is replaced by the “Tornado” extender, which puts the opponent in a ground state. Some stages have hazards, including destructible walls and floors. “Tekken 8” aims to provide a more cinematic experience, focusing on stage destruction and character reactions.
Character models and voice acting are all new, adding a fresh feel to the game. Online mode introduces “Arcade Missions,” a battle lobby with an arcade environment, regular online battles, and tournaments. This mode allows users to customize their avatars using “Battle Currency” currency. TEKKEN 8 uses the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, marking it as the first major fighting game to utilize this advanced engine.
