Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III features gameplay similar to its predecessor Modern Warfare II and the wider Call of Duty series. It retains features such as swipe cancel and introduces “Open Combat Missions” to the campaign, which allow players to approach objectives more freely.

In multiplayer, all 16 maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available at launch. Players can vote for maps in the matchmaking lobby, a feature that has been reintroduced after some games removed it recently. The game will also increase player health to increase “time to kill” (TTK).

The “red dot” minimap, absent from Modern Warfare 2019, makes a comeback, showing the location of enemies when they fire unsuppressed weapons. Unlike traditional turn-based zombies, this mode follows the DMZ mode structure, with up to 24 players forming squads to fight zombies and AI-controlled human enemies to complete objectives, collect loot, and extract items. The mode introduces “zones” instead of rounds, with escalating difficulty levels. Aetherstorms and narrative-driven story missions add depth to the experience.
