Director Renuka Shahane said the film was indeed influenced by certain real-life experiences and emotions. However, it is crucial to understand that Tribhanga is not an autobiographical account of Shahani’s personal life or her relationship with her mother. Instead, the film builds on these elements to craft a compelling, emotionally charged narrative about mother-daughter dynamics, family bonds, and the struggles faced by every generation.
The story follows three women – Nayan, Anu and Masha – as they face their past and present and seek forgiveness and understanding. It delves into the complexities of their relationship, exploring how their choices and actions have shaped their lives and impacted each other. Through the characters’ journeys, the film depicts the multi-layered nature of family relationships and the universal themes of love, acceptance, and redemption.

Tribhanga Review
After watching Tribhanga, it’s clear that Kajol’s Bollywood essence is still strong and she continues her classic acting style. However, the film’s execution is disjointed, with the director, dialogue writers, and actors seemingly out of sync and never fully in tune.
Tribhanga, directed and written by Renuka Shahane, explores the complex mother-daughter relationship between three generations with noble intentions. Acclaimed novelist Nayanthara (Tanvi Azmi) makes questionable choices in relationships, affecting her daughter Anuradha (Kajol) and granddaughter Martha ( Mithila Palkar). The film delves into the consequences of their choices, seeking forgiveness and catharsis when tragedy strikes.
While the story is promising, the execution falters. Kajol and Tanvi’s performances dominate, leaving Mithila with limited screen time. Kajol’s emotional performance, while initially engaging, later becomes overly dramatic and forced. Tanvi’s performance provides a more mature balance to Kajol’s intense performance.
However, the film’s downfall lies in the portrayal of Kunal Roy Kapur’s Milan and the clunky dialogues of the entire cast. Milan’s overly cartoonish character and lack of depth in his dialogue hinder the impact of key moments, leaving the mood damp and lifeless.

In another world, Tribhanga might have been more influential with significant changes. But just like Nayan’s regret in the film, he can only apologize for his shortcomings.
