Joseph Clifford Montana Jr. (born June 11, 1956) is a prominent former American football quarterback known for his 16-season career in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the San Francisco 49ers.

Often referred to as “Joe Cool” and “The Comeback Kid,” Montana is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the sport. After leading Notre Dame to a national championship in college, Montana began his NFL journey with San Francisco in 1979 and excelled over the next 14 seasons.

Montana etched his name into football history by leading the 49ers to four Super Bowl titles and becoming the first player to win three Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.

His accomplishments include setting the Super Bowl record for most pass attempts without an interception in a career (122 in four games) and owning the all-time passer rating of 127.8.
