Jurassic World 4: 10 Existing Dinosaurs That Should Finally Get To Show How Powerful They Are

Summary

  • Jurassic World 4 is confirmed for 2025, promising the return of underutilized dinosaurs from previous movies to make a mark.
  • Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Jurassic World 4.
  • Oviraptor, Mamenchisaurus, and Stygimoloch are among the dinos deserving more screen time in Jurassic World 4 for their unique traits.

Jurassic World 4 was confirmed in January 2024, so dinosaur fans can hope for the on-screen appearance of some of the underutilized dinosaurs from previous Jurassic Park movies. With fan favorites ranging from the gentlest herbivore to the scariest carnivore, the creatures of this franchise were destined to make a mark on the minds of many. Universal Pictures’ high-budget spectacle Jurassic Park started off a new public adoration for dinosaurs, which was continued by the recent Jurassic World movies, so it stands to reason that the franchise could bring back some of its old creations.

With Scarlett Johansson set to star in the new Jurassic World 4 movie, bigger, better versions of dinosaurs could be in develoment. And with so many dinosaurs in the running to become the new face of Jurassic World, it’s hard to tell which ones will make the cut, which ones will play leading roles, and which will sit in the background. But there are numerous beasts from the original trilogy, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion that had only minor screen time, making them perfect inclusions for the new movie.

10 Corythosaurus

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Corythosaurus in Jurassic Park

Appearing for a few brief moments in Jurassic Park III, Corythosaurus was a gentle dinosaur that could serve a pleasant narrative purpose in Jurassic World 4. First seen running away from attacking raptors, this genus was a herbivore that used small interlocking teeth at the back of its jaw to grind plant matter down before swallowing it. Corythosaurus could appear as one of the less threatening animals in Jurassic World 4.

Jurassic World 4
is set for release on July 2, 2025.

Although Corythosaurus was only seen fleetingly during a stampede in Jurassic Park III, it offered an intriguing look at late cretaceous herbivores. This dinosaur’s long snout recalled many duck-billed dinosaurs, with both sharing a similar dental arrangement. However, the bony crest on its head was Corythosaurus’ real identifying feature, making it a memorable genus to include in a dinosaur movie.

Jurassic Park III is the third film in the series and takes place four years after the events of The Lost World. The film follows the original protagonist Alan Grant and his new assistant/protege, Billy Brennan. When Grant’s dig is in somewhat dire straits, a business proposition by two supposedly wealthy vacationers potentially changes his fortunes. Agreeing to give them a tour of the dinosaur-inhabited island, Isla Sorna, Grant soon realizes the true reason behind the trip is to find their missing son, putting them all in danger.

9 Oviraptor

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Oviraptor in Jurassic Park.

Oviraptor represented an updated perspective on dinosaur design for the Jurassic Park franchise, and its brief appearance marked it out as a great candidate for a bigger role in future movies. Its name referred to its penchant for eggs, meaning “egg snatcher,” but it is now thought that this dinosaur had a far wider diet. Regardless, including a feathered dinosaur was Jurassic Park’s way of saying that it was keeping up with contemporary ideas about dinosaurs.

The oviraptor was shown in Jurassic World Dominion in a flashback, stealing an egg, proving the amusing potential of this cunning creature. The oviraptor was also made to fight in the Maltese black market scene, where it demonstrated the terrifying propensity to run around without a head after being decapitated. All said and done, Oviraptor would make a great star in Jurassic World 4.

The two will have to join other series regulars to uncover the truth of Biosyn’s ulterior motives.

8 Mamenchisaurus

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Mamenchisaurus was one of the slow, graceful herbivores of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but unfortunately, it only got a few seconds’ worth of screen time in this sequel to Jurassic Park. The CGI modeling for Mamenchisaurus was actually based on the Brachiosaurus of the first movie. Both Mamenchisaurus and Brachiosaurus had long necks which enabled them to reach leaves high up on trees.

The slow-moving elegance of the Mamenchisaurus could make for a breathtaking moment in Jurassic World 4. This dinosaur could recreate, in the upcoming movie, one of cinema’s most magical moments of all time. This was, of course, the moment the audience and park visitors alike glimpsed Jurassic Park’s first dinosaur, the giant Brachiosaurus.

Following up on the Steven Spielberg classic adapted from the works of Michael Crichton, The Lost World: Jurassic Park is an action-adventure film that changes perspective and focuses on Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm as he is sent to investigate Isla Sorna as InGen attempts to resolve its financial woes by selling dinosaurs off to create a new theme park. However, as Malcolm warns the executives of the danger of this, terror is brought stateside when the previously contained threats run loose.

7 Microceratus

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Microceratus in Jurassic Park.

This ceratopsian dinosaur was a feature of the Malta black market scene in Jurassic World Dominion, but deserves a place in the upcoming Jurassic World movie. Only featuring minorly in Jurassic World Dominion, Microceratus was one of the dinosaurs being held and auctioned. After the market was raided, the fate of Microceratus was uncertain.

This primes Microceratus for inclusion in another Jurassic Park movie, as that would guarantee closure on its story. This late cretaceous dinosaur may have lived in Asia and used to walk on two legs. There was a healthy dose of Microceratus living in trees in Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel. This small but nimble creature is more than ready for a bigger role in Jurassic Park.

Glen Powell has reportedly rejected a role in the upcoming sequel Jurassic World 4, which is surprising considering he already is in the franchise.

6 Allosaurus

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Close

Allosaurus is definitely one of the dinosaurs that should return for Jurassic World 4, having only appeared briefly in the franchise thus far. Allosaurus has had cameos in various Jurassic Park movies, but this large theropod dinosaur deserves far more screen time. Allosaurus was running away from a volcanic eruption in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, before being struck and collapsing, but others survived.

The dinosaur’s role in Jurassic World Dominion was a bit more pronounced. However, its carnivorous tendencies mark it out as one to return, promising danger and drama. Allosaurus starred in Battle of Big Rock too, which was a short Jurassic Park movie released in 2019, but it is time for this dinosaur’s starring role in a feature-length movie.

5 Stygimoloch

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

This dinosaur was held in a black market auction during Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and its return to the big screen would be welcome. Stygimoloch was one of the most unique-looking dinosaurs of the movie but only had a woefully short sequence. Jurassic World 4 should explore this fascinating animal with spikes surrounding its dome-shaped head.

This dinosaur would use the structure on the top of its head for defense and was thought to be a herbivore about 3 meters in length. This dinosaur has recently been questioned by the scientific community – it may be a juvenile Pachycephalosaurus, rather than its own genus. The limited understanding of this dinosaur and its lack of screen time so far make it an intriguing subject for Jurassic World.

4 Dilophosaurus

Jurassic Park (1993)

Close

The unforgettable Dilophosaurus was an indisputable highlight of the franchise’s first ever movie, Jurassic Park. This theropod from the early Jurassic made another appearance in Jurassic World Dominion. However, no amount of cameos from this franchise standout has ever been enough, and its brief appearances should be supplemented by some screen time in Jurassic World 4.

Its ability to spit venom and erect a colorful frill around its neck were completely fictional.

Memorably shooting poison into Dennis Nedry’s face in Jurassic Park, this monstrous beast was easily one of the scariest characters of the original 1993 movie. It also appeared briefly as a hologram in Jurassic World. Despite the movie magic presented by this beast, its ability to spit venom and erect a colorful frill around its neck were completely fictional. This drama is exactly what makes it ideal for Jurassic World 4.

3 Ankylosaurus

Jurassic World (2015)

Jurassic Park's Ankylosaurus in the woods.

This is one of the best dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park franchise, offering a herbivore with some serious clout. This dinosaur was more than a match for the fictional Indominus Rex of Jurassic World, although it inevitably lost its fight with the movie’s scariest titan. Ankylosaurus had fearsome plates of armor surrounding its torso, making it hard to kill.

Ankylosaurus was built like a tank and had a tail that it would weaponize as a club. This late cretaceous dinosaur had a satisfying run-in with the Indominus Rex, but its role was too short. It could feature as one of the more dangerous herbivores of Jurassic World 4, providing a good balance and demonstrating the incredible variety of prehistoric creatures.

2 Iguanodon

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

The Jurassic World Dominion movie revealed the brilliant Iguanodon, but only for a few brief seconds each time. Starring in a few different scenes throughout the movie, the Iguanodon was silhouetted against dark skies and burning trees in various clips. However, it never received the star treatment it deserved.

It would still appear fresh and new in the franchise and create a foil for the more aggressive dinosaurs that are sure to be on display.

This means that Iguanodon is the perfect dinosaur for Jurassic World 4. With a relatively blank slate, the upcoming movie can give this fan-favorite herbivore more major scenes than it has ever received before. It would still appear fresh and new in the franchise and create a foil for the more aggressive dinosaurs that are sure to be on display.

1 Ceratosaurus

Jurassic Park III (2001)

A red Ceratosaurus in the wilderness in Jurassic Park III.

The Ceratosaurus was one of the most awesome dinosaurs in Jurassic Park III but only had a few seconds of screen time. The carnivore was named for its horn, residing on its snout in a threatening display of power. Ceratosaurus looked dangerous, but the protagonists of Jurassic Park III avoided its wrath by covering themselves in feces to avoid detection.

This pink-tinged carnivore definitely deserves screen time in the upcoming Jurassic World 4 movie. The giant, horned lizard looks more like a dragon than many other dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, and it would go down a treat with fantasy-loving cinema-goers. This would make up for its incredibly brief time in the limelight in Jurassic Park III.
