Taking inspiration from the challenging Souls-like games, the gameplay and combat mechanics have been tweaked to deliver a demanding and engaging experience. Notably, the game can be played cooperatively with other players, fostering a sense of collaboration.
At the start of the game, players can choose from nine different character classes to shape and personalize their unique character avatar. The game unfolds in a vast, interconnected world that’s much larger than its 2014 predecessor. The world is layered, with Axiom representing the realm of the living and Umbral representing the realm of the dead.
The two worlds overlap, allowing access to otherwise unreachable locations when switching between them. Upon death, players are sent to Umbral, where they must retrace their steps to Axiom to recover lost experience points. However, dying in Shadow results in returning to the last save point and losing unused experience points, which are relatively scarce but can be crafted using materials collected from Shadow creatures.
