Balance update
Aside from Advanced Evolution being over-the-top and a little too popular, we don’t have a lot of pressing issues to address in the metagame right now. Many of these changes are intended to improve clarity and expectations for cards that may have unusual interactions.
Card update
High evolution
Over the last month, High Evolution has proven itself to be powerful enough to support three different decks in the metagame. Some are better than others, and none of these three have clear issues in ranked play by any of our metrics, but we think there’s still room to improve diversity at the top of the metagame. Even if each Advanced Evolution deck is different, consecutive pairings can feel monotonous. To do this, we’ve cut the power of two of the most commonly used cards in the set.

- ‘Evolved’ wasp
- [Old] 0/1 – When revealed: Attack 2 random enemy cards with -1 power.
- [New] 0/1 – When revealed: Torment a random enemy card here with -1 power.
Note to developers: It’s simple – the Hornets are awesome. The Wasp works especially well with Lockjaw and Jane Foster, giving it more like a +4 bonus on both Lockjaw rolls rather than just 0/3.However, she earns more cubes overall than any other high-level evolution card, so we’re nerfing her to have a meaningful impact on all of these decks.
- “Evolved” Hulk
- [Old] 6/12 – Ongoing: Each turn you end with unused energy +2 Strength.
- [New] 6/12 – +2 Strength when you end your turn with unused energy. (if in hand or game)

Note to developers: Likewise, Hulk appears in every Advanced Evolution shell we’ve been monitoring, and Hulk is the strongest – even allowing for the unfortunate bug of not counting the last turn of the game, if you happen to have extra energy. This adjustment will remove the issue and reduce Hulk’s average power, especially in Lockjaw shells where players can often build up power without drawing Hulk at all.

We recognize that these adjustments may not be as severe as some players expect, and we will continue to monitor High Evolutionary closely in the coming weeks.
Strategy
- [Old] 3/1 – When Revealed: Discard a card from your hand. Destroy an enemy card at random.
- [New] 3/3 – When Revealed: Discard a card from your hand. Destroy an enemy card at random.
- A card must now be discarded to destroy anything (no text changes)

Note to developers: For some time now, players have noticed a confusing dissonance between Gambit’s destroy card effect regardless of discarding it, and Arnim Zola’s having to destroy his target in order to create a copy of it. Inconsistency aside, the creative concept of Gambit is to “throw” cards at your enemy – if you don’t have cards to throw, why would it work? Since this is a nerf and Gambit is not a commonly used card, we compensate for his loss with +2 Strength. Wong’s combo decks will suffer a bit and may need to start including things like Apocalypse or Swarm if they want to blow up the board. However, using Gambit in a more traditional deck could be an interesting option.
mystique
- [New] Gameplay Changes: “Reveal” is now triggered if a copy of an ongoing card has one (no text changes).
Note to developers: Again, this is a change to better align player intuition with results. Whenever a card in our game copies an ability, it implicitly copies the entire text box. When the Absorber copies a card with the “Reveal” and “Continue” abilities, such as “Soul Stone” or “Electricity,” he immediately gains both abilities. But when Mystique does this, she gains the “reveal” ability without being triggered – even if she’s just being played, like Absorbing Man. This doesn’t happen often, but we see it as a quality of life improvement. We will also make such adjustments to Rogue, try it here first.
nakia
- [Old] 3/2 – When revealed: Give the 2 leftmost cards in your hand +2 power.
- [New] 3/3 – When revealed: Give all cards in your hand +1 power.
Note to developers: Nakia has been underperforming for a while now, a far cry from her dominant days during playtesting. Additionally, her impact is a bit mixed, especially for a card that debuted in Series 2. We’re trying to address both of these issues with this change, making Nakia a more powerful, simpler card.Maybe she’s found a new home in the competitive metagame, maybe not – time will tell.

The following adjustments are simply to improve the way some cards are worded to better align with our knowledge of how to make SNAP cards clear, consistent, and easy to read. We will continue to update in this manner over time.
Black Bolt
- [Old] When revealed: Your opponent must discard the lowest-cost card in their hand.
- [New] When revealed: Discard the lowest-cost card in your opponent’s hand.
Note to developers: There is an unresolved inconsistency regarding the capitalization of the word “Cost” in this article. We are continuing to look into the situation with other cards.

Once all cards have been placed, they are revealed, triggering any special abilities they possess. The outcome of each location depends on the total power of the cards placed there. The player with the most power in a specific position becomes the winner of that position. To achieve victory in the game, the player’s goal is to win two of the three locations. There are typically six rounds throughout the game, with each round gradually granting the player more “power”.
This increased power allows players to deploy more powerful cards, further enhancing the potential for strategic depth and exciting gameplay moments. Marvel Snap requires players to carefully evaluate their cards, make strategic placement decisions, and effectively utilize special abilities to ensure victory where they are needed. It’s a game that combines tactical choice, resource management, and luck to provide an engaging experience for Marvel fans and card game enthusiasts alike.
