In Modern Warfare 3, assault rifles have dominated the game’s meta since its launch on November 10, 2023. However, the developers have been making changes, with updates released on November 15th and November 17th.

While previous updates have focused on fixing bugs, players have been asking for adjustments to balance the game’s weapons. On November 21st, Sledgehammer Games released another update with much requested SMG buffs. In addition, the DG-58 and FR 5.56 assault rifles, known for their burst firepower, have also been weakened in this update.

- Addressed a crash that could occur when viewing weapon challenges.

- Closed an exploit that allowed players to equip weapon camos that they had not yet unlocked.
- Resolved an issue where players were unable to equip the Borealis weapon camo after unlocking it.

- Resolved an issue where the appearance of the Io Operator (MWII) would not change dynamically as expected.

- Maximum damage range increased from 9m to 19m (+114%).

The highlight of this balancing process was the reduction of the lethality of the FR 5.56 and DG-58. Both weapons now require two headshots to kill an enemy with a single 3-round burst. Additionally, these changes are intended to improve the consistency and feasibility of submachine guns to achieve their intended goals at this level.
