Persona 5 Gameplay
Persona 5 is a video game in which you play as a high school student named Joker in modern-day Tokyo. The game follows day and night cycles and weather patterns, similar to life simulation games. The Joker goes to school, works a part-time job, enjoys leisure activities, and even creates combat items year-round. His actions affect his social statistics, unlocking more activities and options. The Joker can also form relationships known as “soulmates” with other characters, resulting in potential romance and special combat abilities.
In the game, you’ll explore two types of dungeons in a realm called the Metaverse: Palaces (story-specific) and Mementos (randomly generated dungeons). Both are filled with shadows and represent repressed ideas based on mythology and religion. You can complete missions in Memento and use stealth to avoid shadows. The Joker possesses a special ability called his “third eye” that helps solve puzzles and identify interactable objects and enemy powers. Safe rooms within the palace allow you to save money and travel quickly.
Combat is turn-based, and you can initiate combat by encountering enemies or launching an ambush to gain an advantage. You’ll wield weapons and summon avatars, which are manifestations of your character’s inner thoughts, to perform special attacks. Hitting an enemy’s weak spot grants you an extra turn. If all enemies are down, you can trigger a powerful “all-out attack,” negotiate for money and items, and even recruit enemies as characters. Losing all health knocks out a team member, and if the Joker falls, the game is over.
You can acquire new characters through successful negotiations in combat. Different role types are associated with close friend relationships. The Velvet Room is where you meld your characters, combining their skills and stats. Sacrifice one character to create items or grant experience for another character. You can also send characters for intensive training to gain skills faster.
The game includes a small multiplayer feature called the Thieves Guild, which allows players to see each other’s activities in the metaverse and offer assistance.
