Bad things end explained

Poor Things ends with Bella Baxter, played by Emma Stone, living an unconventional happily ever after. After escaping Alfie Blessington’s control and rejecting Max at the altar, Bella returns home. Bella conducted her first experiments with the scientist who created her, Godwin (now deceased), swapping Alfie’s brain with that of a goat.

Living at Godwin’s estate with Max, Felicity (the woman on whom Godwin experimented), and her friend Toinette, Bella embraces her newfound freedom. Bella’s decision to become a doctor symbolizes her desire to have a positive impact on the world and continue Godwin’s work.

The film explores Godwin’s complex motivations for creating Bella, motivated not only by scientific curiosity but also by loneliness and a need for companionship. The storyline differs from Alasdair Gray’s book, introducing key changes while retaining the core narrative.

A satirical response to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Poor Thing delves into themes of existence, death, feminism and identity. Bella’s experience as a woman navigating a society where men tried to manipulate her adds depth to the film’s exploration of social norms and inequality. Ultimately, “Poor Things” provides a unique and thought-provoking conclusion to Bella’s journey.

Poor story

In Victorian London, medical student Max works with the eccentric surgeon Godwin Baxter and falls in love with Godwin’s ward, Bella. Bella jumped off a bridge and died after becoming pregnant. Godwin restored her innocence by placing her unborn baby’s brain inside her.

Max proposes and Bella agrees, but as she gets smarter she wants to explore the world. She elopes with lawyer Duncan and embarks on a journey that includes Lisbon, a cruise ship and Paris. In Marseille, Bella works in a brothel after leaving Duncan. She befriends Toinette and learns about socialism.

Meanwhile, Godwin falls ill and asks Max to find Bella. Max finds her in London, she reconciles with Godwin, and plans to marry Max. However, at the wedding, Duncan and General Blessington interrupted their conversation. Blessington claimed that Bella, known as Victoria, was his wife.

Bella, curious about her past, discovers Blessington’s violent nature and flees from him. Blessington trapped Bella in his mansion and threatened her. She resisted and he shot himself. Director Lanthimos loved working with actress Emma Stone again because they trusted each other so much. Stone talked about the differences between making “Poor Thing” and “The Favorite,” another movie they made together. ‘

This time, Stone didn’t just act, she also helped produce the film. She finds it fun to help with different parts of making a movie, such as selecting actors and other important team members. Stone is definitely involved in this, especially since they started during the pandemic. Since they couldn’t travel, they had to stay in one place and do a lot of work, like casting.
