Children of the Forest gameplay
Children of the Forest inherits the successful formula of The Forest, immersing players in the challenges of the protagonist, who is trapped on an island inhabited by cannibals. Survival becomes the primary goal of players as they navigate the treacherous terrain, using their skills to craft weapons and buildings to help them cope with the countless challenges presented by the harsh environment. Children of the Forest introduces innovative mechanics to the gameplay, such as 3D printing and the inclusion of friendly non-player characters (NPCs).
These NPCs include Kelvin, a deaf-mute companion who requires players to communicate via written commands on paper to complete tasks such as resource gathering and making fire. Another notable character is Virginia, a three-legged, three-armed woman who can equip weapons to enhance combat capabilities. The game’s expanded map is four times larger than the previous game, providing players with a vast and diverse landscape to explore and survive.
In addition to the single-player experience, Children of the Forest offers a cooperative multiplayer mode for up to 8 players. This cooperative play adds a social dimension to the survival story, allowing players to strategize, build, and tackle challenges together. Branching stories are influenced by player behavior, leading to different endings based on the choices players make throughout the game, further enhancing the replayability and dynamics of Children of the Forest’s immersive survival gameplay.
