What does the tier list mean?

The tier list for Tekken 8 divides fighters into different tiers based on their overall combat effectiveness and prowess in competitive play. Each tier represents a group of fighters with similar survivability and performance in combat.

The SS tier is made up of the strongest fighters in the game, such as Jun Kazama and Devil Jin, who have excellent punishment tools and pressure tactics that make them formidable opponents.

In the S tier, fighters like Dragunov and Hwoarang have shown solid melee and combo potential, allowing them to compete effectively against top contenders. Some of these fighters are also recommended for beginners due to their versatility.

The A-level fighters, including Nina Williams and Leo, are well-balanced characters whose strengths make up for their weaknesses and are solid choices to win the match.

B-tier fighters include fighters like Alyssa and Leroy, who may struggle due to limitations in their playstyle or a lack of significant upgrades compared to previous versions of the game.

Finally, the C tier includes fighters like Kuma and Panda, who have low combat effectiveness due to their moves being cumbersome and difficult to execute.

The tier list serves as a guide to help players understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of each fighter, helping them make an informed choice when selecting a competitive character for Tekken 8.

Tekken 8

Tekken 8 was developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Arika, and will be released on January 26, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The story mode “Dark Awakening” is set six months after the previous game and revolves around the final battle between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, aiming to end the turmoil in their family. There are 32 new and old characters in the game, and each character contributes to the overall story.

Announced at Evo 2022 in August 2022 and shown at Sony’s State of Play, Tekken 8 uses Unreal Engine 5 to enhance visuals and introduces new mechanics such as the “heat” system and “tornado” strikes. The game was rigorously tested in July and October 2023, with a demo released in December. Tekken 8 has been widely praised for its radical gameplay and series development, and is hailed by many as the best in the series.

Tekken 8 Gameplay

Tekken 8 retains the classic fighting game mode of its predecessor, but enhances the game intensity through a more aggressive gameplay, as emphasized by producer Katsuhiro Harada. Introducing the innovative “heat” system, characters in a heat state can not only cause chip damage and unlock additional moves, but also change the properties of certain attacks, such as heavy defense breakthrough.

Fighters can sprint to cancel actions while in the hot state, and the timer is paused when performing the action. Unlike previous games, chip damage occurs when defending against critical hits or opponents in the hot state, so offense is necessary to restore health.

Technical updates include replacing the “Spiral” mechanic with a “Tornado” expander and stage hazards, enhancing gameplay dynamics. TEKKEN 8 also emphasizes cinematic elements such as stage destruction, while boasting all-new character models and voice acting. Online mode features an “Arcade Mission” battle lobby for a diverse multiplayer experience. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, TEKKEN 8 sets a new standard for fighting games.
