The series also has a healthy variety of television shows, comics, novels, and even video games that have each portrayed the Sith in their own way. In these different additions to Star Wars, some have made inclusions to the Sith’s power set as well.

Battlefront II’s campaign mode ties the Star Wars canon timeline together by setting up events from the movies, TV shows, books, and comics.
When playing as Darth Sidious, players are granted a new ability called Dark Aura. Essentially, this ability allows Darth Sidious to charge the air with dark energy via the use of his Force Lightning. This would slow those around him, allowing the Sith Lord to kill his enemies with greater efficiency.
9 Force Storm Has Many Different Meanings In Star Wars
It Was A Different Ability From Force Lightning
Close
Over the years and throughout the franchise’s different canons, there have been multiple different abilities titled Force Storm. One of these has previously been showcased in the movies, with Darth Sidious’ Force Storm being an incredibly large blast of Force Lightning shown in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, the Darth Sidious of Star Wars Legends used a very different version of Force Storm, this one being far more powerful and destructive.
Appearing in the 1991 comic series Dark Empire, Darth Sidious used the ability Force Storm to rip open massive hyperspace wormholes. This ability allowed the user to not only move things through space in the blink of an eye, but also tear planets apart if the wormhole was too close. Darth Sidious would eventually use this ability to his own detriment, creating a wormhole that grew until it was out of control, consuming him as well.
8 Sith Alchemy Involved More Than Other Uses Of The Force
It Has Been Used Across The Star Wars Timeline
Close
Differing greatly from other uses of the Force, Sith Alchemy was a practice that involved a variety of different techniques. These techniques could vary from instance to instance, but each involved producing something from the Force and giving it a physical form. Although it has never made an appearance in the movies, Sith Alchemy has made an appearance at several different points in the canon TV shows’ timeline.
One instance in which Sith Alchemy has been used includes Darth Sidious’ attempt to follow Ezra Bridger into the World Between Worlds using a bright blue flame in Star Wars Rebels season 4, episode 13 “A World Between Worlds.” It was also used by the metalsmith Albrekh in order to repair Kylo Ren’s helmet, as described in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary. Aside from the Sith, this practice was also used by the Nightsisters, tapping into the dark side of the Force with their magick.

Another dangerous form of Sith Alchemy, Dark Illusion was a power originally used by the combined forces of Darth Sidious and Count Dooku. Appearing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 6, episode 13, “Sacrifice,” this power allowed the Sith to influence Jedi Master Yoda during his planet to the Sith world of Moraband. Darth Sidious appeared to Yoda as the Jedi entered the tomb of Darth Bane, masquerading as the dead Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas and tempting him with the identity of Darth Sidious.

This one tragic Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode explains why Palpatine chose to target Count Dooku and turn him into a Sith Apprentice.
This ability is capable of reaching incredible distances, but it comes at a high cost. In order to actually pull this off, Darth Sidious needed to exploit the Force Bond that already existed between Master Yoda and his one-time pupil, Count Dooku. Without their already strong connection, Dark Illusion would not have been possible.
6 Force Phantom Was A Star Wars Legends Ability
This Ability Required An Incredible Amount Of Energy
Close
Also known as Sith Phantasms, the ability to create Force Phantoms allowed the user to create a perfect copy of whatever they wanted. This could be another person or perhaps a monster, so long as whoever was creating the phantom continued to hold complete and utter focus. However, this took an incredible amount of energy, which needed to be collected beforehand in order to not only keep up the illusion, but protect the user as well.
Created by Darth Vectivus centuries in the past, the Sith Lady Lumiya would be the one to popularize this ability’s use in the Legacy of the Force series. She used this ability to torment countless people after the age of the Empire, including using it to force Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker to fight apparitions of their son, Ben Skywalker, and their nephew, Jacen Solo. Although this ability has only been seen in Star Wars Legends, there is always a chance that it could make its way into canon.
5 Memory Walk Was Used As A Torture Device
The Sith Were Not The Only Ones To Use This Ability
Close
Described as a dark side ability used for millennia by different practitioners of the dark side of the Force, Memory Walk was an ability primarily used for torture. It involved delving deep into someone’s mind, pulling out their worst memories and then forcing the person in question to relive them. This would be repeated over and over again, causing pain in the process but somehow making the subject more intelligent after recovery.
The Sorcerers of Tund and the Order of the Sith Lords were both known to use this technique, but it was most famously used by the sorcerer Rokur Gepta in L. Neil Smith’s 1983 novel Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon. Here, he used this ability on Lando Calrissian in the hopes of killing him. However, before he could finish the job, they were attacked by Renatasians and Lando was given the opportunity to escape.
4 The Sith Stone Ritual Was A Myth In Star Wars Canon
A Sith May Have Been Turned To Stone On The Planet Moraband
Close
The Sith Stone Ritual is really as simple as it sounds, as it is a Sith ritual that involves turning a person to stone. It was first described in the short story “Gaze of Stone” from George Mann’s Myths & Fables, referring to an incredibly detailed statue of a Twi’lek that stands on top of one of Moraband’s tall mountains. The story poses that this is not a statue at all, but rather the body of Sith apprentice Ry Nimbus, who has turned himself to stone.
According to the story, Ry Nimbus stole the ritual from his master in the ways of the dark side, the Sith Lord Darth Caldoth. He did this in an attempt to kill his master, but unbeknownst to him, Darth Caldoth had preemptively changed the words to the ritual so that it would target the speaker instead. So, when Ry Nimbus attempted to turn his master to stone, he inadvertently condemned himself to a death encased in stone.

Originally introduced in William C. Dietz’s 1998 novella Dark Forces: Jedi Knight, the Thought Bomb was a dark side power capable of a detonation that would completely annihilate anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast radius. It was originally created in order to destroy the Jedi, only to be used as a last resort. This ability required the combined efforts of several Sith Lords in order to work and was detailed by the Sith Lord Darth Revan in his Sith holocron.
Darth Bane learned of this ability when parsing through the information passed on by Darth Revan, and he used this to his own advantage. Now fully committed to the idea of the Rule of Two, Darth Bane needed a way to eliminate all the remaining Sith, save for himself and his apprentice, Darth Zannah. He passed the information of the Thought Bomb to Lord Kaan, who brought the Sith together to use this ability against the Jedi, but because a group of 100 Jedi attacked as the bomb was being created, Kaan detonated the bomb, eliminating the group of Jedi and the Sith in a single blast.
2 Force Magick Was Primarily Used By The Nightsisters
Their Magick Was Considered A Dark Side Power
Close
Living on the planet Dathomir, the Nightsisters were known to be powerful practitioners of something known as Force Magick. Linked closely to this dark side, Force Magick encompasses a whole array of abilities, including the ability to heal wounds, transform bodies, and even possess individuals to force them to do the witches’ bidding. Despite never appearing in the Star Wars films, this ability has been seen in multiple different television series, video games, and even comic books.
Many different characters have either used or taken part in rituals conducted using Force Magick. Characters such as Asajj Ventress and Darth Maul both have close ties to the Nightsisters, with Asajj originally being one herself. The Nightsisters were not the only witches to use Force Magick, however, as the Witches of Brendok used this ability as well.
1 Alter Reality Was An Ability Darth Sidious Aspired To Have
It Would Have Been The Most Powerful Dark Side Ability Of All
Close
Alter Reality is a Force ability introduced in James Luceno’s Tarkin, a canon novel that takes place only five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. This ability is said to be the dark side power to reshape the entire universe, creating something in the user’s own image with them in control. Darth Sidious was obsessed with achieving the goal of learning this power, much like his master Darth Plagueis was obsessed with becoming immortal.
Despite the fact that the ability to completely reshape reality is supposedly possible in the Star Wars universe, it is entirely hypothetical. While Darth Sidious was successful in completing his master’s research and effectively becoming immortal, he was not successful in his search to change reality. If he was, there is no telling the kind of chaos that would have unfolded at his hands, putting the galaxy completely at his mercy.
