The Mandalorian Is Bigger Than Ever, & These 10 Epic Star Wars Stories NEED To Be Shown

It’s become glaringly clear in the last 6 years that The Mandalorian franchise is one of the biggest things Star Wars has launched ever since its inception, which makes these untold stories from The Mandalorian and other titles absolutely vital – especially with upcoming projects like The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. The Mandalorian marks the first time in Star Wars that a movie will be created out of a TV show, as the opposite is typically the case.

This Star Wars franchise has been treading new ground for 6 years now, with no signs of stopping. It’s even more important, then, that untold Star Wars stories from The Mandalorian and other Mandalorian-related properties are finally told. There’s no shortage of fascinating stories that could be told from all over Mandalorian history, but these 10 regarding specific characters, events, and other storylines are the ones that Star Wars ought to prioritize, listed in no particular order.

Greef Karga’s Rise To Magistrate Of Nevarro

Exploring His Past Would Honor Carl Weathers’ Legacy

Close

Greef Karga, portrayed by the late Carl Weathers, began as a character who was meant to be killed off in The Mandalorian‘s third episode. Weathers’ performance, however, convinced showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni that Greef was a character who absolutely had to stick around. This choice was for the better, as Greef Karga has since become one of the TV show’s most iconic and beloved characters, having appeared in all The Mandalorian‘s 3 seasons.

Sadly, due to Weathers’ tragic passing in 2024, Greef Karga’s story will end with The Mandalorian season 3, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be expanded further into the magistrate’s past. If anything, an exploration into how Greef became the magistrate of Nevarro would honor Weathers’ legacy. Recasting would be easy with a younger version of Greef’s character, and given his history with the Pirate King Gorian Shard, Greef’s past and rise to magistrate could make for a fascinating Star Wars adventure.

Tarre Vizsla Creating & Wielding The Darksaber

The Darksaber Has Played A Key Role In The Mandalorian Franchise

Close

While the Darksaber was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it was The Mandalorian that brought the famed Mandalorian weapon to live-action for the first time and added some context to the ancient blade that neither The Clone Wars nor Star Wars Rebels had previously discussed. The Mandalorian season 2 introduces the concept that the Darksaber must be won in combat, or else any claim made to it and Mandalore’s throne is ruled invalid. This made the Darksaber absolutely crucial to The Mandalorian season 3.

Despite the heavy weight the weapon carries in The Mandalorian‘s story (literally, as Din Djarin could never properly wield the Darksaber), there’s still little known about its actual origin and its creator, the Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Vizsla. What little we do know comes from Rebels, but ever since then, there have been no new developments in his story and the lore around his famed Darksaber. The ancient weapon may be destroyed now, but this missing history is still absolute gold that Star Wars needs to strike.

Satine Kryze’s First Meeting With Obi-Wan Kenobi

These Two Star-Crossed Lovers Are Essential To The Clone Wars

Close

It’s hard to believe that Satine Kryze has yet to be mentioned in The Mandalorian franchise, especially with her sister, Bo-Katan Kryze, playing such an important role in the story, but that doesn’t mean the former duchess’ story isn’t still important to The Mandalorian itself. Satine was created for The Clone Wars animated series, and fascinatingly enough, it’s revealed that she and Obi-Wan Kenobi are former lovers who are still secretly harboring their feelings for one another.

Satine Kryze has yet to be mentioned in The Mandalorian franchise, but that doesn’t mean the former duchess’ story isn’t still important to The Mandalorian itself.

This relationship becomes a key part of the Clone Wars themselves, as it motivates Obi-Wan to assist Satine and Mandalore on various occasions, despite the fact that Mandalore is a neutral planet during the conflict. In one of The Clone Warsbest episodes, “The Lawless” (season 5, episode 16), Obi-Wan even ventures to Mandalore on his own to rescue Satine – though it tragically ends with Satine dying in his arms. It’s Bo-Katan, however, who helps Obi-Wan to get away from Mandalore safely.

That makes it very surprising that Satine hasn’t been mentioned at all in The Mandalorian, but what’s even more shocking is that the origins of Satine and Obi-Wan’s relationship have barely been explored, and certainly haven’t been seen. Given how important the two become to one another, witnessing their first meeting is not only a cool story opportunity, but is also an essential one. The honorary royal couple of Mandalore’s origin story must be seen eventually.

Bo-Katan Kryze’s Whereabouts After The Mandalorian Purge

What Was She Doing Between Then & Trask?

Close

Speaking of the Kryzes, Satine isn’t the only one with a missing story. The Mandalorian introduced the Great Purge of Mandalore in season 1, an event that not only drove all Mandalorians from their homeworld, but also managed to nearly wipe out their entire kind. Bo-Katan is actively trying to reclaim Mandalore when we first see her in The Mandalorian season 2, but given that this event presumably occurred during the original Star Wars trilogy, there are a lot of years there to make up for.

Obviously, Bo-Katan wasn’t going to be able to take back Mandalore right after it happened, especially not until the Galactic Empire was ultimately defeated. Still, however, there’s an approximated 6-year gap between the Purge and Bo-Katan’s first appearance in The Mandalorian. Season 3 told us that Bo-Katan was still safe to reside in her palace on Kalevala, which only makes things even more confusing in retrospect.

Beginning in 2019, The Mandalorian’s story has become absolutely essential to the Star Wars narrative. This is the complete timeline of its events.

What was Bo-Katan up to, and why didn’t she move in to reclaim Mandalore directly after the end of the war, especially when she had such close proximity to the planet whilst living on Kalevala? This doesn’t have to remain an unanswered question; filling in those missing years would make for an absolutely thrilling Mandalorian story. It could also help to enrich The Mandalorian season 3, an installment met with overall mixed reviews, in retrospect.

Younger Din Djarin Working For Ranzar Malk’s Gang

This Would Make Mando’s Character Arc Even More Meaningful

Close

Despite now being considered one of Star Wars’ best characters, and certainly one of its most recognizable, there’s actually not a lot we know about Din Djarin’s backstory. Of course, the titular Mandalorian has certainly received a due amount of attention in his TV show, but that only chronicles a small window of his actual life. There are, as yet, no other additional resources that fill in the gaps of his past, aside from a few off-handed mentions in the TV show itself.

One such mention was an important part of The Mandalorian season 1, episode 6 “Chapter 6: The Prisoner,” which sees Din Djarin reunite with his former business partner, Ranzar Malk, to earn credits while on the run with Grogu. Ranzar Malk’s gang in The Mandalorian is different than it was when Din and Ran worked together in the past, but Xi’an is the one constant who helps us to understand more of their past. It seems the two of them may have even had a romantic relationship at some point.

Exploring this part of Din Djarin’s past would be such a rich way of showing how far he’s come since meeting Grogu. This is especially true given one key reference in “The Gang.” Xi’an speaks of a past job on the planet Alzoc III that presumably saw Din Djarin doing something quite dark and drastic, as he lowly proclaims he “did what I had to” there. Perhaps a comic, or even a novel, about this time in Din Djarin’s life would be a welcome way to tell what seems to be an absolutely fascinating story.

The Shattering Of Death Watch Into Warring Factions

How Many Different Groups Exist?

Close

The Death Watch is a key part of Mandalorian history, chronicling an era when some of Mandalore’s own warriors used terror and violence as a way to bring back their people’s ancient ways. This group plays a vital role in The Clone Wars, opposing Duchess Satine Kryze and her pacifism to the point of allying with Darth Maul to give themselves a chance to swoop in and win back both the throne of Mandalore and its people. It worked, until Maul ultimately took the throne for himself – and Death Watch began to shatter.

The Armorer tells us in The Mandalorian season 3 that the Death Watch “shattered into many warring factions,” which led to the creation of Din Djarin’s group, the Children of the Watch. Other than them and Bo-Katan’s Nite Owls, however, we have no context for how many other offshoot groups there are, nor how this dispersion of various factions fully happened. Given Death Watch’s importance in Star Wars history, this seems to be an especially crucial story to tell.

We have no context for how many other offshoot groups there are, nor how this dispersion of various factions fully happened.

This is particularly the case with the Children of the Watch. There’s so little we actually know about them still, including why they even went to Din Djarin’s original homeworld of Aq Vetina to save him from the Separatist battle droids as a child. Considering that Death Watch, at some point during the Clone Wars, staged attacks to make themselves look heroic, this could have a heartbreaking twist in Din’s future. For now, however, it’s a mere mystery that ought to be solved.

Din Djarin’s Earliest Years In The Children Of The Watch

What His Own Apprentice Journeys Looked Like

Close

Speaking of Din Djarin’s history with the Children of the Watch, there’s even more we could potentially explore beyond his rescue. The Mandalorian season 3 planted some interesting seeds of what Din’s own childhood in the Children of the Watch might have looked like, including him embarking on his Mandalorian apprentice journeys with his as-yet-unnamed mentor, but that’s all we have to go off of at present. Otherwise, we have no idea what Din’s adolescence was really like.

It wouldn’t be that important to explore if Din Djarin wasn’t such an important Star Wars character now, and if he wasn’t about to repeat those days of his childhood by becoming Grogu’s adoptive father and Mandalorian mentor. We’ll no doubt get bits and pieces from Din as he trains Grogu, but we should get to see even more of it. The added context of Din’s earliest years in the Children of the Watch would help us to see why he’s raising Grogu this way.

What Happened To Grogu After Order 66

Where Did He Go, & Did He Stay With Jedi Master Kelleran Beq?

Close

Ever since The Mandalorian season 1, we’ve been getting more and more bits and pieces about Grogu’s own past, most notably his experience during Order 66. The question of who rescued Grogu from the Jedi Temple, as indicated by Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2, was largely speculated until season 3 revealed that it was none other than Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. The two were seen narrowly escaping with the help of the Naboo, but their destination is still unknown.

At some point, Grogu has to both part ways with Kelleran Beq and somehow fall into the hands of the Nikto mercenaries who are keeping him on Arvala 7 in The Mandalorian season 1, where Din Djarin ultimately finds him. There’s a lot of missing time to account for between these two events, but perhaps most important is finding out where Kelleran and Grogu went immediately after Order 66, and how Grogu stayed safe during all those years.

It wasn’t as if surviving as a Jedi during these times was simple. The Imperial Inquisitors were quickly ready to scour the galaxy for any Force-sensitive beings, and many Jedi met their fate at their hands. This means that the orchestration of Grogu’s hiding had to be elaborate, because he’s not only a Force-sensitive Jedi youngling, but he’s also a member of Yoda’s species – an extremely rare and Force-adept species at that. This missing context is absolutely key to Grogu’s Star Wars story.

Din Djarin Making A Name For Himself As A Bounty Hunter

We’ve Actually Seen Surprisingly Little Of Mando’s Bounty Hunting Career

Close

The Mandalorian was intent on hiding its biggest secret ahead of the TV show’s premiere: Grogu. Because of the actual story’s dependency on Grogu and his relationship with Din Djarin, the show was mainly marketed as a spaghetti Western in Star Wars that simply followed the bounty hunting adventures of Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian. This isn’t really what we ended up getting, in that we really only saw Din go on maybe two bounty hunting jobs, but it was definitely for the better.

The show was mainly marketed as a spaghetti Western in Star Wars that simply followed the bounty hunting adventures of Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian.

Now, however, it would be utterly fascinating to see how Din Djarin earned his title as “the best in the parsec.” This is especially true with regard to his Amban phase-pulse blaster rifle, a weapon that was likely endowed upon him by his covert as, seemingly, the primary bounty hunter within their tribe. To see more of Din in action with this incredible weapon would be a gift, and it would be hard to find anyone who wouldn’t want to see more of him in his prime bounty hunting days.

Of course, we’ll get a taste of this with him now working as a contracted bounty hunter for the New Republic rangers, specifically hunting down Imperial Remnant targets, but it would still be cool to see how exactly Din Djarin made himself into one of the galaxy’s most effective bounty hunters. This would be especially thrilling if it took place mainly during the original trilogy era, which precedes the events of The Mandalorian by at least 5 years.

The Purge & Fall Of Mandalore

The Most Devastating Moment In Mandalore’s History

Close

There’s no doubt that the most important story we need to see based off The Mandalorian is the fall of Mandalore during the Great Purge. Over the course of The Mandalorian‘s 3 seasons, including its interlude in The Book of Boba Fett, we have learned small pieces about this devastating event, but that is definitely not enough. Because this event is so pivotal to The Mandalorian and Star Wars as a whole, it really ought to be shown, too, not just told.

The Mandalorians were nearly wiped out during the Night of a Thousand Tears, due to the treachery of Moff Gideon and the other Imperials who led the charge against the galaxy-renowned warriors. His betrayal cost so many Mandalorians their lives, and forced those who survived to live in hiding for years until Bo-Katan restarted her effort to reclaim the planet. These events are way too large-scale to happen merely in text; this is devastating that we need to witness for ourselves.

This is especially true with The Mandalorian making Mandalorian history so important in the greater Star Wars galaxy. We have seen Mandalore rise and fall before, namely in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, but never the way it did during the Great Purge. If we’re going to witness Mandalore’s future in The Mandalorian franchise, then we absolutely need to explore more of its past, particularly this crucial event in its people’s history.
