What is a Shiny Locked Pokémon?
Shiny-locked Pokémon are creatures in the game that can never be found in a special alternate color, no matter how many times you encounter them or restart the game. Typically, the chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon with a unique color palette is 1 in 4,096. However, some Pokémon have a special, different-colored version that is intentionally locked and will not appear during regular gameplay.

This practice started in the early Pokemon generations, but became even more noticeable in the fifth generation, with certain legendary Pokemon in game boxes never being discovered in shiny form without special events. This situation has not changed in 9th generation games such as “Scarlet” and “Violet”. Simply put, shiny locked Pokemon have a hidden unique appearance that players cannot access through normal gameplay.

Pokemon scarlet and violet
The release of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on Nintendo Switch in 2022 marks the beginning of the ninth generation of the Pokémon video game series. Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, these role-playing games are set in the Pardia region and feature a vast open world inspired by the Iberian Peninsula.
Unlike earlier Pokemon games, Scarlet and Violet offers three different storylines for players to explore. The introduction of 110 new Pokémon, Zone Form and Paradox Pokémon, as well as the Terastal phenomenon that allows Pokémon to transform into unique “Tera Types” add to the excitement of the game.
Despite some technical issues and criticism of the graphics and progression systems, the games were praised for their open-world format and engaging storylines. Notably, they set a record for Nintendo’s largest release, selling over 10 million copies in three days and reaching 23.23 million copies by September 2023.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet maintain the familiar gameplay structure from the previous games, focusing on players catching and trading Pokémon to explore the world and battle other trainers. One notable addition is the option to fight trainers on the path. These games feature open worlds that seamlessly blend urban areas with open wilderness, unlike earlier Pokemon games.
Players are free to choose from three routes, and the objectives within these routes can be completed in any order. The game introduces 112 new Pokemon, including the starter Pokemon Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly, as well as the legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon, providing a diverse lineup. Two new regional forms, Paradox Pokemon and “convergent evolution” Pokemon (like Wiglit, which is similar to Diglit), add to the excitement.
The “Let’s Go” mechanic allows Pokémon to roam around the world and automatically participate in wild Pokémon battles. Co-op play for up to three players is also included. Scarlett and Violet revealed the Terastall phenomenon, giving Pokémon a crystal-like appearance and changing their type to match their “Tera Type”, introducing special moves such as Tera Blast for Terastallized Pokémon.
