- His father, Raymond J. Winstone (1933-2015), ran a fruit and vegetable business, while his mother, Margaret (née Richardson; 1932-1985), worked emptying fruit machines.
- Winston’s childhood memories include playing with his friends on the Bomb Site, an open space covered in the debris of World War II bombs.
- He attended Brimsdown Primary School and later Edmonton County Schools, which during his time there transformed from a grammar school to a comprehensive school.
- Additionally, Winston attended Corona Theatre School, but did not enjoy traditional schooling and ended up only obtaining a CSE (Level 2) in Theatre.
