Aaron Gillane (born 1996) is an Irish hockey player who plays as a right corner forward for the Patrick Weir club team and represents the Limerick Senior Hockey Team in inter-county competitions.

Aaron Gillan’s early life
Gillane’s rise began at Ardscoil Rís in Limerick. On 22 February 2014, he came on as a substitute in the Harty Cup final as Ardscoil Rís defeated Scoil na Trionóide from Doon 2-13 to 0-04.

While at Mary Immaculate College, Gillan earned a position as forward on the college’s senior hurling team. On February 25, 2017, he defeated Carlow Institute of Technology 3-24, 1-19 in the final, helping Mary I successfully defend its Fitzgibbon Cup medal.

Gillan has been a member of the Patrick Vale club since a young age, playing at all levels of youth and underage competition. Although he encountered some challenges during this period, he joined the youth team at the age of 17 after missing out on the senior team. It was at this point that club legend Ciaran Carey played a crucial role in convincing him to stay and join the senior team. Gillan’s early senior club career coincided with Patrick Ware’s narrow defeat to Napiase in the 2015 county final.
As the 2016 Limerick County Championship progressed, Gillan continued to prove himself an important part of the starting line-up, sharing free-catching duties with Diarmaid Byrnes. On October 23, 2016, he scored seven points from the right corner forward position, including five free throws, to help Patrick Swale beat Bally Brown by 19 points for its first championship win in 13 years.
Gillan once again played a key role in the 2019 County Final, scoring six points from the right corner position as Patrickswell beat Na Piarsaigh 1-17 0-15 in second place. won the championship title for the first time.

Minors and under 21 years old
Gillane’s journey with Limerick Hockey started when he was selected as a member of the minor team ahead of the 2014 Munster Minor Championship. He made his first appearance for the team on 26 June 2014, coming on as a late substitute in the Munster semi-final against Cork, with Limerick winning by two points. However, he remained on the bench in the ensuing Munster final replay, which ended in a defeat to Watford. Although Limerick qualified for the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny, Gillan was not included in the matchday 24-man squad.
After a season without any minor inter-county games, Gillan made his debut for Limerick Under-21s on 28 June 2016, in a Munster quarter-final win over Co. He played as a right corner forward in the game. Although he was dropped from the starting 15 for the semi-final defeat to Tipperary, he earned a starting spot and took on a regular role in his second and final season with the Under-21s. Responsibilities. In the 2017 Munster Under-21 Championship, Gillan was top scorer with 0-29 and earned a winners’ medal as Limerick defeated Cork in the final. On 9 September 2017, he contributed 7 points in Limerick’s All-Ireland final victory over Kilkenny. His outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him overall scorer honors with a 0-44 record, and he was subsequently named to the Bord Gáis Energy Team of the Year.
