Who is Diamade Burns?
Diarmaid Byrnes (born 1994) is an Irish pitcher who plays as a right back and proudly represents Patrick Ware Club. Additionally, he competed at inter-county level, demonstrating his skills as a member of the Limerick senior hurling team.

Diamade Burns’ early life
University
While studying at Limerick Polytechnic, Burns was fortunate enough to be selected for the college’s senior hockey team to compete in the prestigious Fitzgibbon Cup competition.

From an early age, Burns was a member of the Patrick Vale club, actively competing at all levels from juniors to minors.
On 23 October 2016, Burns showcased his skills in the centre-back position, contributing six points as Patrick Ware won a Limerick Hockey Championship medal. In the final, the team achieved an impressive victory over Ballybrown 1-26 to 1-07.
Burns returned to play in the Limerick Championship final on 6 October 2019, once again playing at centre-back and scoring two points, one of which was an impressive long-range strike. With an outstanding performance, Patrickswell defeated Na Piarsaigh 1-17 to 0-15 to win another championship medal.

Minors and under 21 years old
Burns’ journey with Limerick began in the minor leagues in 2012, although the season ended with a Munster Championship semi-final defeat to Clare.

He was later promoted to the Limerick Under-21 Hockey Team and made his debut on 4 June 2014. Unfortunately, he received two yellow cards and was subsequently sent off in a disappointing 2-20 to 1-14 loss to Clare.
Burns’ fortunes turned around the following season as he won a Munster Championship medal with the Under-21 side in a hard-fought 0-22 to 0-19 final win over Clare. On 12 September 2015, he played at right back in the All-Ireland final as Limerick defeated Wexford 0-26 to 1-07. Burns’ stellar performance throughout the season earned him a spot on the prestigious Bordegas Energy Team of the Year.

On 13 February 2016, Burns made his debut for the Limerick senior hurling team in the National Hockey League, in a 2–23, 0–15 win over Wexford. Later that season he made his Championship debut, losing 3-12 to 1-16 to Tipperary in the Munster Championship.
Burns suffered a setback in April 2017 when a knee injury forced him to miss the championship game.
On 19 August 2018, Burns played an important role, scoring from right-back as Limerick won the Premier League title in a thrilling 3-16 to 2-18 final victory over Galway. First All-Ireland title in 45 years. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the Sunday Game of the Year All-Pro team and an All-Star Award nomination at season’s end.
On 31 March 2019, Burns played at left wing-back in the National League Final against Watford at Croke Park and contributed to Limerick’s success, finishing 1–24. Received a winner’s medal after winning 0-19. On June 30, 2019, he showed his strength in the right-back position, scoring three long-range shots, and in the final, Limerick defeated Tipperary 2-26 2-14 and won the Munster championship medal.
