Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Game Plot

In the year 184 CE, China is engulfed in the chaos of the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Led by the Zhang brothers, who possess a powerful Elixir provided by the mysterious Taoist Yu Ji, the rebellion aims to overthrow the ruling Han dynasty. Amidst this tumultuous period, an unnamed protagonist, serving as a soldier for a local militia, performs a courageous act by rescuing a Blindfolded Boy from rebel forces during an attack on a rural village.

Together, the protagonist and the enigmatic Boy, who possesses magical abilities, manage to escape. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they cross paths with Zhang Liang, one of the Zhang brothers. A fierce battle ensues, and the protagonist emerges victorious, drawing the attention of Yu Ji. The Taoist captures the Boy, revealing his true identity as the dragon deity Yinglong. With the dragon in his possession, Yu Ji escapes, leaving the protagonist determined to track down the remaining Zhang brothers and rescue the captive spirit.

During their journey through the treacherous mountains, the protagonist joins forces with Zhao Yun, another member of the militia. Together, they confront Zhang Bao, the second leader of the rebellion, and save Hong Jing, a young sorceress in search of her lost brother. After parting ways with Zhao Yun, the protagonist and Hong Jing encounter the renowned oath brothers Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, who join their quest to find and defeat Zhang Bao.

Through their alliance, the protagonist becomes involved with Cao Cao and Sun Jian, two Han army generals entrusted with quelling the rebellion. Eventually, Cao Cao’s forces discover the whereabouts of the final rebel leader, Zhang Jiao, who has sought refuge in a fortress constructed within a desecrated temple. In a climactic battle, the protagonist vanquishes Zhang Jiao after he transforms into a demon using the Elixir.

Following this triumph, the protagonist and Hong Jing travel to her mountain village, where they rescue her mentor, Zuo Ci, from a malevolent entity. Through Zuo Ci’s divination magic, they uncover a conspiracy involving the Yellow Turban leaders and Zhang Rang, a eunuch minister seeking to create chaos in order to seize more power for himself. Determined to halt his plans, the protagonist, along with Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, infiltrates the eunuch’s palace with the intention of assassinating him.

However, their mission encounters resistance as they face off against Zhang Rang, who employs dark magic to create clones of himself. Despite their efforts, Zhang Rang manages to escape, only to be slain by his ally, Dong Zhuo, who seizes the Elixir for his own gain.

Empowered by the Elixir and aided by demons summoned by Yu Ji, Dong Zhuo raises an army and captures the Imperial Capital, taking the Emperor hostage. In response, Yuan Shao and Cao Cao form a coalition consisting of various provincial ministers and military officers to confront Dong Zhuo. The coalition clashes with his forces at Hulaoguan in a pivotal battle. During the intense conflict, the protagonist faces off against Lu Bu, Dong Zhuo’s trusted lieutenant, but fails to defeat him.

Unbeknownst to all, Hong Jing recognizes Lu Bu as her long-lost brother. As the coalition army approaches the Imperial Capital, Dong Zhuo retreats to his fortress in Meiwu and sets fire to the capital. Although Dong Zhuo is driven out, many members of the coalition abandon the mission, believing that Dong Zhuo is no longer a significant threat. This leads to frustration for Yuan Shao, who remains steadfast in his belief that Dong Zhuo must still be held accountable for his crimes.

Complicating matters further, Yu Ji manipulates events, resulting in the Elixir-induced transformation and untimely demise of Sun Jian. As a result, Sun Ce, Sun Jian’s eldest son, swears vengeance against the Taoist after Yu Ji kidnaps Sun Jian’s daughter-in-law, Da Qiao.

In a pivotal moment, Hong Jing infiltrates Dong Zhuo’s fortress disguised as a dancer named Diao Chan. Her aim is to aid the protagonist in their infiltration and to establish contact with her brother to understand his affiliation with the tyrannical Dong Zhuo. Inside the throne room, a fierce duel ensues between the protagonist and Dong Zhuo, resulting in severe wounds that force the tyrant to retreat. Desperate to defend himself, Dong Zhuo attempts to use the Elixir to transform Hong Jing into a demon. However, before he can carry out his plan, Lu Bu stabs him from behind, protecting his sister.

Lu Bu allows the protagonist and Hong Jing to leave Meiwu unharmed, but claims the Elixir for himself. He mobilizes Dong Zhuo’s former army to wage war against Cao Cao’s troops. As the two forces clash across various provinces, Lu Bu refrains from using the Elixir, despite being pushed back multiple times. When the armies ultimately confront each other in Xiapi, Lu Bu is approached by Yu Ji, who questions his reluctance to employ the Elixir and offers him more power.

Recognizing the Taoist’s true intentions, Lu Bu turns the tables, using the Elixir to transform himself into a demon just as the protagonist and Hong Jing arrive at his command center. The duo is forced to engage in a battle against the transformed Lu Bu to halt his destructive rampage, leading to a moment of immense significance in their quest to restore peace and harmony.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Game Play

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an immersive action role-playing video game that provides players with a rich and customizable gaming experience. From the outset, players can create and personalize their own unique character, selecting from a range of options to customize their appearance and abilities. They also have the choice of five distinct “phases” that offer different combat styles and approaches.

Combat in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty revolves around both close-range and ranged attacks, providing players with two options for engaging enemies directly. A vital aspect of successful combat lies in effectively deflecting enemy attacks using melee weapons, creating opportunities for counterattacks. Each enemy possesses a “Morale rank,” indicating the level of challenge they present. Defeating more formidable adversaries yields greater rewards in the form of valuable loot.

During battles, players accumulate spirit energy, which gradually fills up their spirit gauge. This enables them to unleash powerful “spirit attacks” capable of delivering devastating blows, unleashing special combat techniques, or even casting elemental spells. Additionally, players can call upon the aid of mythical “Divine Beasts,” including the Qilin, Baihu, Qinglong, Zhuque, and Xuanwu. These Divine Beasts can provide active assistance in combat or passive benefits through “Divine Beast Resonance,” enhancing players’ capabilities and strategies.

Following a predominantly linear progression akin to the Nioh series, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty incorporates Battle Flags as save points throughout the game world. Players can also utilize “Genuine Qi,” the equivalent of experience points, to upgrade their characters and unlock new abilities, enhancing their combat prowess and overall performance. Notably, Wo Long introduces a jump button, adding an additional layer of exploration and combat dynamics to the gameplay.

Furthermore, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty features an exciting cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing players to summon a friend to join them in battle. This cooperative element enhances the gaming experience, enabling players to strategize together, overcome challenges, and share in the thrill of epic combat encounters.

With its captivating gameplay mechanics, intricate customization options, and engaging cooperative multiplayer mode, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty offers an immersive and thrilling adventure for players seeking an action-packed role-playing experience.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Game development

During a special live stream on October 26, 2021, commemorating the remarkable 40-year career of Koei Tecmo’s president and CEO, Kou Shibusawa, an exciting announcement took place. Yamagiwa, who joined Team Ninja in mid-2021 after departing from Sony’s now-defunct Japan Studio, brings invaluable experience and passion to the project. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Nioh, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty intertwines real historical events with captivating supernatural elements drawn from rich folklore and mythology.
